Another $6.6 trillion down the drain! That’s a lot of retirement savings wiped out
Trump’s Tariffs Wipe Out Over $6 Trillion on Wall Street in Epic Two-Day Rout https://www.wsj.com/finance/stocks/u-s-stock-futures-fall-further-after-china-retaliates-against-trump-tariffs-3be33fa7 |
No, here's something you need to listen to. |
I sincerely feel that Trump will pull back on some tariffs and/or Congress/something will disallow them from happening. It's just too gigantic of a mess. Epic and dramatic don't even justify the description. It's beyond illogical. It's too nuts.
The biggest issue is that the damage will be done in terms of relationship management. Logistically and transactionally, it may be possible to fix things but our reputation globally is at zero. Nobody wants to have anything to do with us, esp our friends. To me, that's worse even than his plan, you cannot break bonds. Whatever else happens, being alone is a sure losing situation. Every time. Every situation. We are pretty much done from a long term perspective even without looking at Econ. |
Bill Clinton's Secretary of Labor said the stock market is not the economy.
However, let's assume it is. All these savvy investors, why weren't they aware Trump was going to put in these tariffs? The stock market was fine for two months, and the two months after Trump was elected. The conclusion is that tariffs are not bad for the economy. Or that the other things trump is doing, like budget cuts, tax cuts, regulatory cuts, are providing a benefit that outweighs the damage caused by tariffs. Even as Trump was putting in some tariffs still no drop in the stock market. So, what changed to produce this 10% drop in a few days? Clearly the big change has been the level of the tariffs, more than reciprocal. In some cases on countries that have a free trade deal. Perhaps the market is saying a ten percent chance the economy crashes to 0, or a 20 percent chance it drops by half, or 50% chance it drops by 20%, balancing in that these tariffs might not happen. But overall the market has signaled that smaller tariffs are not harmful to the economy. |
Stellantis also laid off over 900 hundred employees across Indiana and Michigan. They reported it’s temporary until they figure out the impact of the tariffs from products made in Canada. |
I don't understand this well at all, but apparently the formula they used to calculate tariffs quadrupled what the tariffs should be.
https://www.aei.org/economics/president-trumps-tariff-formula-makes-no-economic-sense-its-also-based-on-an-error/ According to Snopes, social media users had figured out the formula before it was actually published. https://www.snopes.com/news/2025/04/03/trump-tariff-formula/ |
Spare me the Foghorn Leghorn BS from Kennedy. He lost all credibility LONG ago. Again, the "unfair Canadian tariff" bullshit was DEBUNKED AND IS FALSE. FALSE. PERIOD. |
One of MANY companies laying off. |
Trump's policies have already erased $6 TRILLION from the economy. 401k's, retirement funds, and more. This is a complete disaster. |
Working class retirees are getting wiped out yet somehow they think billionaires need tax cuts. |
The US is a young country. Make no mistake that in China, best and brightest are in govt, I am Chinese (US citizen). They are not fools. The Chinese are vilified by the west but they do things very well in certain ways. They are of late blending in capitalism and their govt structure is solid because of it. China is a smart country overall. The US is very dependent on everyone coming together - we have to be lucky enough to have a wise administration, a Congress that partners together and just overall good luck in terms of ag and small businesses faring well altogether - a lot of also external stuff like oil prices stable, no natural disasters, etc. it's a lot. Politically, there's no ownership, it's basically luck and timing of who is leading the way. Right now is a good example. China is a machine. You can say what you will about how evil they are but they are very much in control. Nothings perfect in human design but a measured approach is how they navigate. Their model is really not the evil that Americans think it is. |
