DeSantis and FL moving to hammer Disney

Actually, it’s a lot longer than 2053. It’s tied to 21 years from the last survivor. If little Lilibet lives to 101 like her great-grandmother, it will be 2143. But even if she dies sooner, one of the 5 Windsor great-grand babies is bound to outlive her. In 121 years I doubt there will even be a thing as Disney World. Or Florida for that matter.

No, he didn't do it, at all.

He has made a mockery of Florida...from education, to insurance, to crime and law and order, he has failed at every turn.

I think you are making the mistake of not seeing who his audience is. His audience is the nationwide republican base, which sailed away from reality a while ago and live in Foxnews bubble, where DeSantis is a hero. Even in Florida, with all the damage he has done, he was reelected decisively. So i am concerned that he got most if what he wanted, which was painting himself as the “real people” ‘s champion against crazy libs’wokeness. I doubt most republicans will go look for the details of the power of the board of would care if they knew. It’s all for show, like Trump’s wall, he built a few miles and immigrants went over it or through it but fir the base Trump sealed the border. So i am afraid this issue is not going to damage him at all

It is. It's made him a joke - the news is everywhere. You don't need to know the details to understand that Disney bested DeSantis politically, which is deeply embarrassing for someone with presidential aspirations. And even the hardcore MAGA people will hear about it because Trump will make sure they do.

I don’t watch Fox but curious how they are spinning this, because that’s what the base us watching, right? Doesn’t matter how the NYT or cnn are reporting if republicans aren’t watching it. I’m not convinced this will really hurt DeSantis either but agree Trump will pounce on it.

Here's what's on the Fox News website

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/war-corporate-kingdom-desantis-new-board-spars-control-disney

A board appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis to run a district overseeing Disney World looks to be headed for a legal fight with the corporate giant.

In the hours before the Florida House of Representatives approved a state takeover, the board — still under control of company appointees — transferred many duties of the special district over to Disney's control.

"The Executive Office of the Governor is aware of Disney's last-ditch efforts to execute contracts just before ratifying the new law that transfers rights and authorities from the former Reedy Creek Improvement District to Disney," said a spokesperson for the governor’s office, Taryn Fenske.

DESANTIS SIGNS BILL REVOKING DISNEY'S SELF-GOVERNING POWER

According to developer agreements signed into effect Feb. 8, the same day the Florida House passed legislation to control aspects of Disney’s land, the Reedy Creek Improvement District transferred most of its power to Disney for the next 30 years.

Def a pretty understated reporting - no hysterical headline. But it's on the front page of their website now.

He's already posting that DeSantis was out maneuvered by a mouse. The left and right are laughing at him and when everyone is laughing at a leader with a Napoleonic complex, you know there is going to be a response. I'm looking forward to him digging an even deeper hole. My only question is whether or not he can antagonize Disney enough for them to leave Florid

There is zero chance of Disney “leaving” Florida. Disney has more power than DeSantis, and smarter attorneys. Disney will be thriving in Florida long after DeSantis is gone.

As far as his conservative base is considered, he “did it.”

I don’t wander here often, but wanted to point out the final zinger issued by the former reedy creek board. They always conclude their board meetings with a final thought and I’m sure this one brought them great satisfaction.

Very nice. I doubt they actually paid attention to that since they missed the obvious.

Disney isn’t leaving, but Carole Baskin is apparently taking her business elsewhere:

Carole Baskin’s Florida animal sanctuary, Big Cat Rescue, to close and move big cats to Arkansas, husband says

Apparently, Florida has gotten too expensive.

It is not just sex, its also gender and gender identity and encouraging prepubescent children to undergo gender reassignment.

Exhibit A and B for what my dad always said - never underestimate the stupidity of the American voter. These people exist. An actual person (I think??) typed these two statements.

I can only speak for my daughter, but since this bill passed, it's open season on gay kids in the school she goes to (in Florida, just to be clear). When they announce Pride Club at her high school (not "little kids", HIGH SCHOOL), along with the other clubs, they are openly boo'ed. They are mocked on the regular in the, what, 21 days since this passed. The homophobes like those above are teaching their children to be hateful, and they're doing just that in droves right now. And it's only just beginning. You two posters must be gleeful reading this. Must be so proud of the hate you're teaching your kids.

The liberal media decided to rename this bill the "don't say gay bill". In doing so they are promoting homophobia.

The "parental rights in education" bill addresses what should be taught in school by teachers in the third grade and below.

Fighting against "don't say gay" bill promotes homophobia? LOL

R logic.

Let's face it, Rs are glad to be able to "come out of the" hate closet.

Repressed, gun-toting, Christian hypocrites. When will the LGBTQ Republicans in government “come out of the gay” closet and be banned? How about Lindsay the G stands for gay. Plenty of Republican sexual deviants in https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/751002.page;jsessionid=0684B660304343648D9909A31D091AF0.dcum2
How about those Christian values? Why are Republicans so quiet in Nashville? Covenant Church protected a child molester for decades, and jailed the whistleblower. There is a connection. I’ll end here out of respect for the victims.

Rhonda Santis is killing business.

And again, oops. Disney laid out exactly what its plans were for that last board meeting as required by law and the entire DeSantis administration just… missed it.

How in the world did they not know about the meeting and changes? Part of me wonders if DeSantis wanted the splash of going after “woke” Disney, but had to know it would never to withstand a court challenge. I have believed since last year that he would quietly hand back the self governance after the election.

https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/courtside/can-ron-desantis-control-disneys-content/

This has some of his comments. People actually believed he could control Disney’s content, and that somehow, Disney would leave this power with their municipal district.

DeSantis may be stupid about a lot of things, but he must have known this would not have ever worked out.
