Maternity bathing suits....a special level of hell.

I mean, in one sense, you can say "f*ck it" and just get whatever b/c you are huge anyway, but the thighs, the butt, the wobbly arms... Good Lord. I mean, can I fake tan while pregnant so I do not look so goddamn pasty AND huge? Seriously. Like, is there crap is the tanning lotions that will make the baby nutso? I almost do not care. I have to go away with my DH and I cannot get into a pool like this.

It is all so sobering. So, so, sobering.

Seriously, don't worry about how you look. No one who is worth a crap will judge how you look when you are pregnant.

Don't know how far along you are, but, you might find a suit you like at J. Crew. They have mix and match tops and bottoms w/ varying abounts of coverage. I was able to find something when I was 5 months along.

Don't know about the fake tanning, I'd suspect that you won't make the baby nutso, but, I probably would skip it.

Just tell yourself you have a lovely pregnant woman "glow." Then tell yourself it again. And again.

Seriously, no one will judge. Just be comfortable. I found a great tankini type of thing at Motherhood Maternity last time I was pg. It was so cute and flattering that I wore it a bunch after giving birth, as my weight was coming back down.

Good luck!!

I am 30+ weeks, and about to head south for some sun, and fully intend to wear my regular old bikini and just let the world see my big pregnant belly - probably with a nice sarong for when I'm not actually in the water. In part because I'm on #2 and have a bit of a whatever attitude - I just want to be warm and float at this point. but also because I tried on a ruffled maternity suit and it made me look absolutely ridiculous, and was WAY worse than just leaving the belly out for people to see.

Your body is doing what it was biologically made to do. Don't be ashamed of it.

OP here.

I love all you positive ladies, but I am not loving what my body is meant to do, at least not in a bathing suit. I am embarrassed and just tired.

And I love the person who is going to just wear her bikini anyway....PLEASE. If I was wearing a bikini BEFORE I got pregnant, I would not be having this problem right now...

I just want to say, I gained 40lbs when I was pregnant and the whole time I wore a two-piece racer-back top and boy-shorts bottom speedo suit. I totally didnt care and took being pregnant as license to just go with it. You're supposed to be fat and waddle around! I felt better in a bathing suit pregant than anytime before or after, just because of that. Sigh...

You can fake tan; it's fine. I did Mystic.

Sorry - that was me with the bikini. Hadn't really thought through how that might come across, and just brought it up because my Mom acted all shocked about the idea of leaving my pregnant belly exposed. But I do apologize - I know bathing suits are really hard, and that I'm very lucky in that I carry my pregnancy like a freakin' beach ball so no one will pay any attention to the rest of me, and that like the PP, somehow being pregnant actually REDUCES my body image issues.

You know it's funny--28 weeks pregnant is the ONLY time in the past ten years that I've felt comfortable in a bikini.

I had the same issue. I bought a suit with the best intention of keep up my swimming laps 4 days a week. They were all some type of floral pastel and made me look like a fucking floaty toy. Nice!

Don't even get me started on trying to find a suit with some support on top. Buying a suit for huge knockers is its own level of hell when not pregnant. Add floral and skirt to that and, well, I cried several times. It was that bad. I cared a lot less when I finally made it to the beach. It was the shopping that nearly killed me.

OP: I get the bikini thing too BUT, find a suit style that allows you to Rock The Bump! People will be so charmed by your bump they won't get to the other parts you focus on. Maybe not bikini but something.

To 19:58. I wore a bikini with a 6 month bump and did have that "I don't care" attitude. My family was scandalized too. Whatev! I got me some bump pride!

I've always had thigh-ass issues but seriously, nobody got there with my big ball so clearly visible.

I wore a plain black tank bathing suit. As for ppl checking out my jiggles on arms, ass, etc--honestly, I think they were so mesmerized/horrified by the huge belly that they didn't notice anything else.

I still remember the day that the lifeguard at the pool asked me, in all seriousness, "you're having twins?"

I had a maternity tankini that worked pretty well...

I echo the others who say that being pregnant allowed them to lose their body issues. I felt like my huge belly made my thighs look smaller!!

I too just wore my regular old bikini while pregnant. I was going to look ridiculous no matter what I wore -- why spend money on a special "maternity" way of looking ridiculous.
