APS - how to get rid of ineffectual principal

Anonymous
It’s been years. Absolutely useless. Covid response has been limited.

Moving forward we need a leader with unique, problem-solving skills. This individual has proven to be a follower, not a leader.

Advice please.

I cannot think of a worse time to get rid of a principal.

I think there is a reason no one responded to you.

Were you under the impression that public school parents get a say in such things?

I’d like to fire anyone that didn’t blow sunshine up my dress, please.

You actually can’t. Really.

Superintendent is the one who fires principals. Document and ask for a meeting. That's about all you can do. Can you say which school? Do other parents agree?

We had a terrible ES principle. I complained to school board and they agreed and were monitoring. Then COVID hit.

The Arlington Way has given some folks outsized ideas about their powers, apparently.

"ineffectual" is not going to get rid of a principal. There's a principal who has had multiple citations against them for speaking inappropriately to parents, treating some kids inappropriately, for violating federal laws, and the school system has been sued because of this principal. But, they are covered in teflon and they are still in place. So "ineffectual" is going to get anybody removed if actual cash MONEY lawsuit settlements doesn't get them removed.

Some parents are nuts, and try to sue the school system because they want them to pay for expensive private schools. They argue that their kid needs music therapy or to learn out on the woods. Maybe the principal said, hey, we can’t provide music therapy. We don’t do that. That has nothing to do with how effective a principal is.

Also, can I just say, I believe ineffective is the word you’re looking for?

APS got rid of a principal at our elementary school. Or convinced her to move on. She was not effective and was at a school in need of improvement. She was a nice person but just didn’t have the leadership skills or the savvy to understand what the community needed. They brought in a veteran to replace her.

How long have you been tracking this principal and what is your definition of ineffectual? I've seen a few principals in APS @ the ES level and while I questioned certain decisions in the beginning, they've grown on me and I now have quite a bit of respect for one of them.

APS is a small system with very involved parents. There’s no way they’d keep an administrator who was really ineffective around for very long.
