| Help me choose please we love beautiful beaches and delicious food. Going in may. We are very picky travelers and would probably do the dunmore at harbour island or a nice villa in St. John |
| St. John isn’t known for its food or restaurants. It’s pretty basic. |
Seconded. And though the beaches were pretty they were far too windy recently to enjoy. Many were also pretty crowded. |
|
St. Bart’s and Anguilla have good restaurants. We enjoyed the food on the French side of St. Martin.
Puerto Rico has a good food scene off the beaten path. St. John still hasn’t fully recovered since the hurricane. Caneel Bay resort was destroyed, so the island has far less wealthy tourists to feed. As such, restaurants aren’t very basic (borderline crummy). |
|
The Bahamas has basic, overpriced food.
You should lower your expectations regardless of what you pay. |
| Op here we would have loved to go to st barts but it’s currently closed to us citizens. I am open to other options! |
|
Which islands are open to Americans, op?
You tell me, and then I’ll provide feedback. (I’ve been to many islands.) |
Some have crazy restrictions and requirements such as wristbands for tracking and mandatory quarantine so those are out. Mexico, Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos, usvi, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Costa Rica Also I should add we don’t care for being around families and screaming kids we are a young couple |
Turks and Caicos is the most upscale and has the best beaches. Don’t stay at Beaches (family resort). Find a luxury resort or condo. |

| I always thought St. Croix had a better food scene than St. John, even though I much preferred the beaches on St. John. There were a few good restaurants but I haven’t been since the hurricane so not sure if any of my previous haunts have reopened. And heck even though it was nothing special what I wouldn’t give for a lime and coconut at the Beach Bar right now.... |
PP again- also not sure the USVI is the best choice for self described picky travelers. Gotta go with the flow there...
|
| You sound pretty basic OP. You’ll probably be happy anywhere. |
| St John is probably the most beautiful of the islands, but it is very t-shirt and flip flops. You might be able to get a decent burger, but you might not. That's not why you go there. |
| Just go to HI. |
