Its not about being the youngest. Its about being in a different grade. This makes a difference. My daughter is still in elementary school and a majority of her team is in middle school. Nothing to do with skill. All about maturity. She feels left out a lot, because a majority of her team has a phone. She doesn't need a phone in elementary school. So yeah, staying with the same grade is a big deal!

It's a good idea to keep a phone out of her hands for as long as possible, BUT you're saying no one else in her grade doesn't already have a phone and the those same toxic dynamics already don't exist at her school OR even the team below? The change from BY to SY won't save you or any of us from that.

I think we are being a little naive if we can't see that there is difference in maturity level between a kid that is in 7th grade and a kid that is in 6th grade. Of course there are outliers but the majority of 6th graders are going to be less mature than 7th graders, I'm not sure how anyone can even argue that?

I think it's a little naive to think that there's really THAT much difference in the maturity level between 6th and 7th graders. Sixth-graders can be and are jerks to other 6th-graders, phone or not. Sounds like you just want your kid to be the oldest, which I understand.

If there is no difference, then why even seperate middle schools from elementary schools? You are really astute at taking conversations completely off of the rails to prove your point.

There are plenty of great k-8 schools. And in this case, we're talking 1 grade difference where the age difference at most is like 6-7 months younger. Sheesh!

Yeah in towns with 1k people. Are you serious on the 6-7 months?

Would we have though? Maybe they're more professionally run organizations that don't drop vague press releases or espouse on podcasts with little to no substance.

This!

ECNL was revealed (if not already known) as a cynical poorly managed league. I totally understand why USSF and MLS etc are all leery of them.

It’s truly a shame, they benefit from the collection of talent at ECNL on the girls side. That collection of talent masks the shoddiness of the league. Clubs, regardless of league, can be hit or miss. But the league itself is run by high-ambition idiots.

Was their a lack of summer month participation pre 2017 when it was SY?

Go research RAE and you'll find your answer

You don’t know what you don’t know.

The google AI summary on RAE seems to be your working knowledge of what it is.

What sucks is that it’s probably the same working knowledge of most of the people on this thread. How do you people stay employed when you know nothing but fumble around as if you’re experts?

Gotcha, you are the only competent person in this read, and in youth soccer as a whole. Insulting strangers on the internet.

Didn’t say that, words like “most” mean things.

But the PP, and tons of posters in this thread keep confusing RAE cause and effect, and generally don’t understand what it is outside of the AI summary and Malcom Gladwell’s misunderstanding of it. Hence my response. And my response is accurate, it’s just a shame you outed yourself as an offended party, nobody would have known the better otherwise (probably including yourself).

So, how about expounding to correct the record?

I would also like a correct explanation of what RAE is. Would really appreciate it

I don't know how anyone can listen to this and conclude that SY isn't a done deal. Sure some tweaks here and there but BY as a thing is done. Only question is what if anything begins to bend for 25/26 before it fully breaks come 26/27. If they're smart, they begin to dabble with some changes in 25/26 to work out the kinks for full roll-out in 26/27.

After listening to this, I dont need to read a single page more on this thread. But I will.

You may be right, but also he doesn't represent the entire soccer industry. He, a long with AYSO and US Club (ECNL) were in favor of this change. To date MLSN, EDP, NAL on the boys side and GA have not made any statements with all rumors being they are staying BY to appease MLS and US Soccer.

I think you see a split, MLSN /GA stay BY and try to corner a market on aspiring pros and the rest go SY. I don't think that is wise on MLSN's part but it is what it is. Parents will speak with their wallets and SY side of the soccer world will win out in the end and MLSN and GA lose market share. GA may cease to exist in a couple years if this happens.

The moment ECNL switches to SY, GA will become 2nd league. After several seasons, GA will be worse than RL. Top GA clubs, together with their boys program, will switch to ECNL. Unless GA can be creative, I do not see any hope for it as the top league.

Nope, GA will be fine either way and you'll keep looking for ways to put them down.

I don't care. I have two boys in MLS. I just stated the fact. Based on my own business experience, that will be the most likely outcome. It is a checkmate by ECNL and you GA lovers will feel this coming fall.
for girls at least, whomever goes SY will have stronger teams. Take 2-3 players per team and have them play a year younger. 20-25% of starting lineup strengthened.

Except SY wouldn't play BY unless they play up a year, which wouldn't be to their advantage.

And while SY may be best for the masses, there's also been talk here that the highest levels of ECNL (10-month program) might even stay BY, because they don't play HS anyway.

Not sure about boys and HS. But girls definitely play high school. You would have a tough sell telling girls and their families you can’t play high school soccer.

Also GA may have weaker teams if they stay BY but if that’s already the case then why would it matter? Also if they stay BY they will most certainly get better Jan to July players looking for a top team or more playing time once the other players move down.

Which would make their BY teams even better in theory.

In my area, all the girls who play on top ecnl or GA teams don’t play HS.

This is definitely the case in this area for ECNL girls top teams.

In Texas, everything stops for HS soccer.

They will submit their plan on 2/27 for the USSF meeting. We will know it after the meeting. I am not surprised if ECNL allows several Q3/Q4 players to play in the younger group just like what MLS biobanding is doing.

ECNL is crazy/dumb if they don’t allow a few Q3/Q4 to play in the younger group/bioband in 2025
