Anyone else with similar experiences to this? It was featured on NPR:

No. But not evangelical.

My parents, who are lifelong Republicans and genuinely try to be Christlike people, are increasingly aghast by what some of their friends believe. It’s really wild. So much of what is being espoused by evangelicals right now does not even begin to pass the “what would Jesus do?” test.

I think general public perception of Christians has changed significantly last 4 years.

Christians = far right republicans = crazy DT supporters = hate filled whites

+1 The term "Christian Nationalism" is an oxymoron. Christ taught his followers that we are not citizens of the physical world but of heaven.

It is frightening, and as a Christian, I don't blame people for turning againt Christianity.

I would just add the word "evangelical" i.e.,

Evangelical Christians = far right republicans = crazy DT supporters = hate filled whites

Not all Christians are like that, but because the evangelicals make the most noise, they are giving all Christians a bad name.

Only among those using the term Christian in an uneducated and overbroad manner.

Actually it is a group of Evangelicals who call themselves Christian, but aren't, and if they ever were, they have severely lost their way.

They think they are Christians. They have pastors who also think they are Christians. You think they have lost their way. Maybe you are right, but given that there are many sects within Christianity, it's hard to know.

I don’t know anyone who left Christianity over white nationalism cloaked as Christianity. I do know some people who switched denominations over political leanings of their churches.

It isn't hard to know that Jesus Christ wasn't a white nationalist: he wasn't a WASP and the US didn't exist in his time. So a group of white nationalists claiming that white nationalism is a part of Christianity are lying. Why? Probably for the purpose of benefiting from the separation of church and state: keeping the state out of their white nationalist business.

You know, I think it's always been this way.... it's just that they are losing power in society so the masks are falling away to reveal what they really are. Nobody's falling for it anymore.

Especially since the Republican Party is built around the people Jesus warned against!

Jesus told us explicitly to beware of the moneychangers; the hypocrites — the people who put money over other humans.
The Bible is filled with stories about Jesus saying that rich men would “sooner fit through the eye of a needle” then go to heaven. (Camel, but you get the idea.) Even on abortion Jesus was not especially strong — the Bible says that killing a pregnant woman brings punishment of murder for killing the woman and a lesser punishment for killing the fetus. This is why Jews are not ideologues on abortion, btw.

Jesus specifically warned against exactly what is happening in the Republican Party today.
Exactly! Rich men oppressing the poor and the weak to enrich themselves.
If there is one story in the Bible, that is it.

Jesus would be a Democrat today and there is no real debate.

Christian Zionism is the far worse problem. As in, scr8w what our politicians and foreign aid should instead be doing for the American nation and people--what has the American soldier and taxpayer done for israel lately?

Not one more dollar of tribute. Not one more American soldier fallen for a foreign flag.

Watch this comment disappear because too many sensitive souls can't handle the truth.

I don’t think it will disappear b/c I am not certain what you are actually saying.
