Loudoun health director - says impossible to know if we will need 6' of distance this fall

UGGGHHHH.

In a response to Beth Barts, he states the 6' of distance will be needed as long as there is community transmission and there is no way to know if we will still have community transmission come fall.

“As long as there is community transmission” aka forever. I hate living here sometimes.

Six feet won’t be required this fall. All the local districts will move as one.

With variants it’s impossible to know. How else could he possibly have answered.

Just threw a bag of popcorn into the microwave. Should be an interesting thread.

Came here to say this. It is impossible to know. I don't think that's bad news. It's just factual.

It’s not really possible to have normal school if more than 18 inches between desks is needed. Even 3 feet doesn’t mean everyone can fit.

Prepare yourselves for bad news about the fall and be pleasantly surprised if Covid transmission is low enough to go back to normal.

Well, I am hoping we can speed up vaccination and that will help.

So how are a plurality of US public schools open full-time now?

They aren’t. Most are open in a hybrid capacity if at all. It is a vast minority that are 5 day F2F.

Many areas of the country have also decided that they are OK with higher death rates than we are OK with in this area. They also seem to be OK with the possibility of creating more variants and making the pandemic last much longer.

PP is completely welcome to move to Arkansas, Missouri, Florida. Those are states where I know teachers doing 5 day no distancing mask optional F2F. But there’s a reason she won’t.

I was talking from hard data. This is percentage by district, not of students.

I want to go to somewhere with masks required, cohorts, and kids spaced out throughout the building creatively. I believe those districts exist in New England.

It isn’t all mitigation or none, it’s a scale.

This also counts all students in a district that offers a 5 day a week learning plan as getting that 5 day a week learning plan, including those who have chosen virtual, or are in grades that are hybrid, if other grades in the same district are in person 5 days a week.
