Key students are just going to watch TV in person:

Am I the only one who thinks it’s outrageous to open school two days a week and then plop the kids in front of screens for those two days??? My child needs actual in person instruction:

“Students will continue to receive a whole-child education through engagement in the full range of core and inner core content areas, but on a different schedule due to the transition to in-person learning. All inner core classes will remain virtual for all students, with the exception of PE that will be offered live to students who are scheduled for PE during their in-person school days. When attending in-person, live PE classes will be offered outdoors, weather permitting. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately to participate in outdoor PE. Boundaries will be created for students using markers and other features. Students will practice routines and procedures for participating safely in PE. If equipment is used, students will be required to keep the same equipment throughout the class and it will be sanitized after use. Used equipment will be kept separate until it can be sanitized to avoid cross contamination.”

If you are going to take the outrageous step of in person school during a pandemic, this is what you get.

Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes.

What is the point of having them in person to watch iPads. I genuinely don’t understand.

What are “core” vs “inner core” content areas?

Sounds like “core” classes are not virtual?

The full email made it clear that they are going to physical school to watch iPads, except for PE.

I would send my kid to school for live PE alone and be ok with them learning remotely. It sounds like Key teachers were all given the option to stay home or all qualified for an accommodation.

Your PE teacher probably volunteered to teach PE outside.

It’s so outrageous. I’m ready to move. What happened to teaching young children in person. Seems like you have to pay for private or move to a red state for that?

That makes no sense to me. My kid will have live instruction for her core subjects in school, plus outdoor PE. If she were just going to do all virtual instruction in the school building, I wouldn't send her back, because there's no benefit to that.

It is because DCPS Central had no plan and pushed it all on individual schools. These plans were all supposedly approved by Central Office so I guess the Chancellor is fine with it. He just wants to be able to say schools are open without getting into details

Your subject was so misleading!

Inner core = specials, like Science, art, music, and library.

The majority of teachers will be going back to Key and most classes will be taught by a live teacher.

To early elementary, watching an iPad is just watching tv. Might as well be pbs or any other semi-educational thing

Specials are going to be virtual. How is that going to school and watching tv all day?

Not good, but at least students will have some peer company.
