Key students are just going to watch TV in person:

Can every angry person on this thread please read the "Some Optimism for everyone" post today. The science does NOT support closing schools. Science is real. Unless you are a Trump supporter of course.

The science supports it in Europe right now. But ok

+1.
Science does support closing schools when a community hits a certain level of transmission, particularly when a new genetic variant is even more highly transmissible, or when, for whatever reasons a community is unwilling/unable to successfully stop the other causes of transmission.

"Prioritizing schools" isn't just 'forcing teacher to risk their lives'. It's curfews, it's enforcing bans on domestic and international travel (no more Florida, ward 3!), enforcing even bans on day trips. It's just Stay the f*** home other than to go to work if you can't work remotely, and take your kids to school.

Yeah, I didn't think so.

But Ward 3 families successfully bullied the whole system, and 2/3 of their student populations had to come back from their lake houses and Florida condos in time to attend in-person school 2 days a week. Wow, you're so powerful!

Your PE teacher probably volunteered to teach PE outside.

It’s so outrageous. I’m ready to move. What happened to teaching young children in person. Seems like you have to pay for private or move to a red state for that?

You should do one of those two things.

My God. This is probably the most idiotic comment I have ever read on DCUM. And that, obviously, is saying something. That people in this city can be so scientifically illiterate and apparently totally ignorant of goings on around the rest of the country and the entire world is very very sad.

You are the ignorant one if you are not aware of how many other districts nationwide and around the world are fully virtual right now. There are at least two reputable trackers that show in person school status. Use the data. It’s science.

That thread is gone. Why?

I was wondering the same thing. It was an article from the NY times that explained how to better measure success of vaccines that really was interesting.

I’ll do you the favor of pointing you in the right direction: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2775875

Of course, I don’t expect you - or the WTU - to be swayed by actual scientific findings. But it is a shame when teachers are so willing to ignore science when it is convenient for them to do so.

Stop it! No one who is remaining virtual has been invited to get a vaccine, ONLY those teachers and staff (guess they don’t count even though they’re in the buildings too!) who are in person have received those slots and none of them are fully vaccinated yet. 🙄
