I fully support renaming schools named after Lee and Confederate heroes and certainly understand moves made relating to others such as Woodrow Wilson, but at some point this is completely batty. To rename a school named after Lincoln because he didn't help Native Americans or because Feinstein because she allegedly opposed same-sex marriage at some point is insane. Will people oppose schools named for Obama because, at least in early campaigns, he didn't support same sex marriage? Where does this end? |
I agree it's silly, but it's silliness limited to SF itself, with its unique politics. "Where does it end?" sounds a bit unhinged; they're not coming after your kids. |
This will be blunt, but you (and others) that think this is just going to magically stop are one of the reasons this continues. At some point, we need to push back and say "Lincoln, REALLY" and yet people just put their heads down instead. |
| This is so irrelevant- they should be worried about opening the schools but no- that’s not on the SJw checklist. Got it. |
| As a Californian, let me assure that us people in CA have become a bit crazy. This is Absurd. Every normal democrat has become a super liberal activist, and we’ve lost all common sense. |
| It's all about finding creative ways to insult white people. Start with the dead, and move on to the living when you've run out of dead people to tear down. |
It's just a school, Felicia. It's not the end of western civilization. |
| It's all just woke window dressing when public school systems really should be looking at curriculum changes and substantive reforms to address their failings. (I'm a lifelong liberal FWIW.) Maybe we should move away from naming schools after people -- name them after local flora and fauna or geographic features or whatnot. There is peril inherent in putting anyone up on a pedestal. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. |
This sounds unhinged; you know perfectly well she meant that where will the ridiculous drive to rename everything end. Nobody is perfect, especially in light of hindsight and ever-changing standards and views. |
| I think we should stop naming schools after people period. This school renaming nonsense just detracts energy (and money) from the real issues on inequality that need to be dealt with. |
+1000 I think it is much easier to tackle 'renaming' than to focus on real problem. |
That's what they say...and then they come for stuff YOU care about. Slippery slope guys. |
Actually when you start erasing the founders of said Western Civilization...does mean the beginning of the end. I'm in CA and I think it's the dumbest thing ever. 95% of all schools are CLOSED and this is the crap they spend their energy and $$ on. Recalls are coming for that school board. |
+1 I started as a democrat and became a moderate after watching the beautiful bay area get completely ruined in less than 5 years from liberal policies. I still consider myself a moderate but usually describe myself as conservative these days because the left is completely insane. Someone very moderate is actually conservative in comparison. |
Make a huge distraction over here so that over there you can just ...... They know what they're doing. And it's working. Unfortunately. |
