It’s just the final countdown flurries. Unfortunately, as much as my DC loved the school, we still decided to leave. |
Actually deadline flurries is common human reaction. I think they'll end at about half the size they were 2 years ago. |
We made the decision to leave BUT we are also leaving the door open to returning after next year. I'll be watching and hoping that SSFS makes a full recovery. I think they will. |
I have personally found it incredibly cathartic and easy to talk to fellow SSFS parents during this past month, and it brought us together in ways I’m quite grateful for. It was a determining factor in us deciding to stay in fact.
The discourse here has been nothing like the in person conversations I’ve had, much much more toxic and illogical, and it has honestly made me quite suspicious that - much like the urbanbaby message board of yore - a whole bunch of folks on this site are making up stuff and manufacturing sentiment. |
Thank you! Couldn't agree more! |
I know what you mean about the in person conversations, but when everybody is in the same herd mentality, they will not allow for differing opinions. I almost re enrrolled based on those conversations. It was only once I talked to others outside the SSFS cheerleaders and reflected upon what was best for my child that I realized we just had to look elsewhere. But who knows, if all goes well, we might come back in a few years. It really is a great school. |
I'm glad you were able to find people to talk to you and make a decision you feel comfortable with. I do not share your opinion though about herd mentality. Clearly there have been differing opinions both here, on slack, and in person. I think the proof of this is that not everyone decided to stay. There are of course SSFS cheerleaders as I would hope there would be cheerleaders at all schools. But my experience over the last few years and especially the last month is that there are definitely those who feel quite comfortable raising concerns and expressing dissatisfaction. This I would also hope for at all schools. Schools need all voices in order to engage in constant improvement. |
302 and counting! We aren't staying but so happy to see this.

We are staying and also happy to see this! I think we'll be at 350+ by the start of the school year. Upper school is going to continue to be amazing. After this week, let's turn our attention to a complete renaissance and recruitment of new families for 2026-2027! |
Yes it's great they put the live tally! |
Not at SSFS but so happy for the community for these numbers. I really hope and pray the school pulls through long term. Good luck to the whole community. You can do this! |
Thank you! |
New tally. 311 and hopefully still counting. I hope families outside of SSFS are seeing this. Yes, I understand it says something about the school that it nearly shut down. But the other story to be told and to keep in mind is just how much this school means to so many people including the alumni that went there. I'm so happy for SSFS. |
+1 New tally this morning is 317. This is amazing! I'm still projecting 350 by the start of the new school year. Let's go! This school has heart (and thankfully new leadership at HOS, LS, MS, and a new restructured BOT)! |
So glad the enrollment deadline is now past. It will take me a while to get over how shameless some parents and their own children have been in pressuring other parents and kids to stay. I particularly will not miss the constant disingenuous prefacing, "I'm not trying to sway anyone, but...". Ugh! I hope Slack quiets down and those hyper and relentless parents can go back to living their lives.
Despite my complaint about some of the parents, I am very happy for SSFS! |
