SSFS Will Stay Open

You must be right. It’s so bizarre.

They are. Thanks for your well wishes.

Not sure if completely solvent. $15M raised and $22M in debt.

Pledges. Still mostly pledges.

No longer true. More than half has been collected and in the bank as of last week (that's the most updated figure we have).

Yeah $42M is completely false.

But I also think it's important to take stock of what was accomplished in just one month - unprecedented fund raising and donations, board resignations, new by laws, new board members, an enrollment number that exceeded expectations given what happened and a number that might still grow, new leadership that stayed committed, etc. One month people. This all happened in one month. You can still be angry and proud at how we rallied at the same time. I sure am!

It's true that it exceeded expectations. But it also might shrink as people get waitlist offers from other schools. It's a mistake not to plan for that.

Ok Debbie Downer. You should let the school know your concerns about planning for this shrinkage.

I don't think they're including those families in the tally. It's based on contracts returned.

The number is signed contracts. Those already decided since withdrawal would have a penalty. It will probably increase over the summer as some on the fence ppl (those on other school waitlists) end up coming to ssfs anyway.

However I will agree that the number may drop next year as people who felt this search cycle was too rushed do a proper search and apply in the fall. But it could also go up if no one leaves and things look more clearly to be moving on in the right direction so people start coming back.

In the end no one can predict which direction it will go next year. How the school deals with fixing the financial problems and sharing information openly will have a large impact on people’s decision making process.

Yes. Good luck.

Im sorry to come off incredulous but are you under a rock? They’ll take applicants for anything. They’re 50% short of their historical numbers. They’ll take anyone in any grade they can convince to come.

I’d rather ask why would you want to start in 9th right now?

This seems like a message posted to start an “advertisement” thread. Because why even ask here if they’re taking applicants? The school has no reason not to answer that directly. Not like it’s a controversial question that anyone needs to ask anonymously. 🤣

Forum got quiet for a few days because SSFS is rebounding. That probably upset the few disgruntled former parents that follow SSFS so closely from forum to forum. I wouldn't put it past someone like you to post the "are they accepting applications for 9th grade" question just so you can reply to it with your negativity.

Even with the financial issues, the teachers are amazing. 9th grade at SSFS would be better than any public in the area.

As long as you go into it with your eyes open, knowing that there’s hope and momentum that the school will stay open past the planned three years but nothing is guaranteed, so you might find yourself looking for a new school for 11th or 12th if things don’t work out.

Even the school isn't using the 3 year messaging anymore. Annoying. The school wouldn't have agreed to reopen if they didn't believe it would be for long term.

Wow that you think there are parents out there who have such a plot to have a conversation with themselves just to sabotage ssfs is one wild conspiracy theory. I can’t imagine anyone has that kind of free time.
