St Alban’s? |
Holton’s seems more impressive! |
So let me ask a question - is this due to academic excellence or DEI policies at admitting schools?
|
I took a gander at Dalton.
There are clearly some schools that are operating on a different level when it comes to college placement. I will never say another word about public school students being favored these days. |
Why are NCS parents allowed their moment when the other parents from other schools were not given their moment? Every ivy acceptance from places like GDS or Sidwell are scrutinized. Yet nobody says anything about NCS girls and their connections. Hypocrisy by NCS parents. |
You already know the answer. No one feels sorry for GDS or Sidwell (especially Sidwell!). Any success Sidwell enjoys will be scrutinized, criticized, and picked apart. There is a downside when you’re the “top dog”…most people (secretly or not) want to see you fail. NCS isn’t viewed the same way as Sidwell. It’s generally considered to be a hard, tough, joyless place to receive an education (and it’s single gender to boot). I think many people pity, not envy NCS students. At least that’s why I don’t mind NCS parents celebrating their daughters’ college matriculations. Let them have some fun. |
The Potomac kids are having a great year. Very solid list! |
Lol umm I am pretty sure my daughter and her friends don’t need to be pitied! They are living a pretty wonderful existence and no they are not doing homework all weekend or miserable. They are out and about all weekend having a lot of fun and socializing and traveling on long breaks. This reputation is pretty dramatic and untrue. There may be outliers but I can attest most are living pretty nice full teenage lives. Much better than mine was! |
Looks comparable to me. Hilton’s posted more so far, but they seem on par with each other. Great job to all of these young ladies. |
Actually, this is nice to hear. It is my understanding the top colleges now are considering (more and more) what applicants like to do for fun (meaning - do they have hobbies, social lives) because so many top students from schools that force academics without balance aren't providing well rounded humans. |
Did you look at the W's???? |
It'll be out soon. Likely all to mostly Ivys. |
Perhaps NCS has become a kinder and gentler place. Unfortunately, its reputation as an academic sweatshop remains. I personally know four NCS alums who refuse to send their daughters to the school—they’re still traumatized. They all say they received a top notch education and were over prepared for college—but at what cost to their mental health? Even Susan Rice, who graduated from NCS as valedictorian, said this about her experience at the school in an interview: “As ostensibly successful as my time at NCS was, I have some mixed feelings about it. On the good side, I got an extraordinary education that has served me extremely well. Truly, nothing has been very hard since NCS. I made some of my best friends in life, who are thankfully still my friends. I felt hugely supported and encouraged by teachers and coaches. NCS built my confidence, but there was a lot of pressure. The down side is that I just felt so exhausted afterwards. I literally took my first year of college at Stanford University to recover…”. |
NP. Yes, and the W schools can only wish to have similar success. |
