The police have said the bike lanes will lead to MORE accidents. Which is completely obvious to just about everyone except the bike bros. |
The police union, citing the NIMBY position on this issue without actually looking at the facts underlying the Mayor's decision, made this false claim. The MPD has made no such proclamation. |
And both Cleveland Park and Woodley Park sit on top of metro stations that have tens of thousands passing through in the same period of time as the 1000 cars go to the zoo. Do you know how many of the people who park in the zoo go outside of the gates to those stores? Zero. the people going to those stores are the ones who walked from the metro either from CP or WP. |
It’s no wonder DC is having trouble recruiting officers. Who would want to put their life on the line to protect you. |
| I trust the police rank and file more than a Bowser’s lackey in the top job. |
Why do you assert that the addition of bike lanes will constrain vehicular traffic when what is being "lost" is a handful of parking spots? The addition of left turn pocket lanes at the intersections will help improve traffic flow thus increasing the practical capacity, particularly at peak periods. |
Anybody whom MPD can't recruit because they wouldn't want to do their job for members of the public who disagree with them, is somebody whom MPD is better off without. |
The police union assertion is factually incorrect, as has already been explained a billion times previously on this and the many other DCUM threads started and maintained by the small number of people whose weird hobby is hating on the Connecticut Avenue plan anonymously online. |
+100. Everyone should thank an officer today (and every day). |
Look, in the middle of the current crime wave that shows no signs of receding you have to listen to the rank and file police. Any project that could potentially increase response time is irresponsible and dangerous. The mayor finally understands this. |
Even when they're wrong! Or, you know, maybe we shouldn't listen to them when they're wrong. |
In 2000, DC was 60 percent black and 28 percent white. It's now 46 percent white and 45 percent black. It's also not just random that the rise of bike lanes coincides with DC getting a whole lot whiter. |
100 percent. I worry about hitting a cyclist a lot because they're so unpredictable. They seem to ignore pretty much all traffic laws so you never know what they're going to do and they don't seem to care if no one can see them at night. |
Walking, bicycling, and transit infrastructure is advocated for by people who are white. Therefore, walking, bicycling, and transit infrastructure is racist and bad. -old white person who lives in Ward 3 [where "old white person" is a factual description, not a pejorative; I am also an old white person] |
I've found that I can see bicyclists a lot better at night, while I'm driving, when I (1) slow down (2) look out for bicyclists. Give it a try! It's effective for seeing pedestrians, too. |
