The state denied it, so your kids will still receive an education on those days after all. |
Until we have an actual start date, it doesn't make sense for teachers to set up the classrooms, not use them and have to break them down again. |
If it wasn't so disgusting, it would be funny. |
They can do this during their 6 weeks before they go back. |
The issue is when if they are teaching daily. |
Day off this Friday, Two hours during the day and don't forget no instruction wednesdays. |
I guess they cannot walk and chew gum at the same time either. |
Teaching hours are significantly reduced from normal. If teachers taught from the classroom for a few days, they would have a bunch of time during the regular day to get things ready. And, even if it required a little bit more time beyond a normal day, you'd hope that folks would be willing to do that under the circumstances. (I bet many, maybe most, teachers would be willing to do it. I'm sure the union would have a fit, however.) Finally, the idea that four full days should be needed for this is crazy. If they had asked for a day, maybe even two, I could see that being reasonable and maybe accepted by the state. But to say you need four full days away from education -- when students have already had so much less class time than normal (and what they have has been less effective, through no fault of the teachers) -- it reeks of them really not caring about education and just trying to take a jab at the state for twisting their arm to open. |
They're not teaching daily, though. Remember Wednesdays? Also, the state didn't say MCPS couldn't take the week off. They said they'd have to make up the instruction days, which is entirely reasonable given how much MCPS has already given away. |
Just give it and then take those days from spring break since we’re not supposed to be traveling anyway. |
They should not be given one more damn thing. |
OMG they have so many days off, there's no reason why they need more. So many professional days! WHYYYYY |
We are in MS and some teaches are using the check in's as an optional teaching day. Some are teaching, not all. |
I'm a MCPS elementary school teacher. I figured I'd use a Wednesday afternoon after our weekly staff meeting to set my room up. There's not much to set up. The kids can't access our classroom library, centers or share materials. It's going to be as sterile and boring of an environment as you can imagine. I think four days would be ridiculous. |
Ummm - they had ALL spring, all summer and all Fall and all of Winter break to get the freaking schools ready. MCPS does nothing and then is ALWAYS asking for something from the state. Give me a break. |
