Teaching hours are significantly reduced from normal.  If teachers taught from the classroom for a few days, they would have a bunch of time during the regular day to get things ready.  And, even if it required a little bit more time beyond a normal day, you'd hope that folks would be willing to do that under the circumstances.  (I bet many, maybe most, teachers would be willing to do it.  I'm sure the union would have a fit, however.)

Finally, the idea that four full days should be needed for this is crazy.  If they had asked for a day, maybe even two, I could see that being reasonable and maybe accepted by the state.  But to say you need four full days away from education -- when students have already had so much less class time than normal (and what they have has been less effective, through no fault of the teachers) -- it reeks of them really not caring about education and just trying to take a jab at the state for twisting their arm to open.[/quote]
