Is there a diplomatic way to ask that a relative stop texting you constantly?

My brother's wife sends us long videos of her toddler daily. Many times a day, sometimes, and they go on for three minutes. They clog up our texts and have exceeded our storage capacity on many occasions. The issue is, it's on a family text chain that we can't easily mute or leave, as this is where we also get updates about a family member who is very sick, another one who is having a marriage crisis etc. Unless we ask for a separate thread for her videos, we cannot easily drop out or even mute.

So we asked her, nicely, hey could you maybe make a youtube channel and upload there so we could watch? We'd love to see your stuff but it's using a lot of storage (trying to be nice, it's truly impossible to watch the sheer volume of videos) but she didn't get the hint and said she couldn't do that extra step and that we can always just delete the videos after watching.

I have tried this but it still clogs our stuff even after we did a huge purge of our data. Help!?!

Let me know if you find it.

You can screenshot shot needed info and delete the chain, or individual messages.

You should be able to block her specifically.

Except what if you still want to talk to this friend/relative but are tired of the deluge of baby photos and videos that you didn't ask for?

How does it still clog your stuff after deleting?

I’d just delete the videos. They can’t use storage if they’re deleted right?

No-Just delete

"Stop texting me so much.""

Short, sweet and to the point. If they can't deal with it, they have a different problem.

The OP still wants to know family details. Just less videos.

I would go with "I'm trying to save my data and still keep up to date on family activities - could we limit the videos to once a week or less? Would love to follow you on a private Instagram though."

You don't need daily updates on a sick relative unless you are providing actual care, or unless it's time to say goodbye, or they die. Or, you can directly ask one person every now and then how they are.

And you have zero need to discuss the state of anyone's marriage. Unless you're just nosy and love the gossip.

Leave the thread.

[Excuses.] OK! Then delete and stop whining.

Honestly there is no diplomatic way to do what you are asking that would be worth it, when the easy alternative is to delete the individual video or texts from the chain.

Yikes. This seems so mean, especially if you like your family.

Add to the annoying DCUM poster list: people who advise you to be unfathomably rude to family. The advice I see doled on DCUM is insane sometimes...

Is this the first child/grandchild in the family? Wow that’s obnoxious. I can’t imagine sending multiple videos a day to family 🙄
