HHI vs. Seabrook/Kiawah

Anonymous
We've been to Seabrook and Kiawah but not Hilton Head.

Can anyone compare the two for me? Trying to decide between somewhere familar and somewhere new.

Thanks.

HHI is more commercialized than Kiawah/Seabrook but not like MD, DE, NJ, VA beaches. More options for food, grocery, shopping, etc. Water on Hilton Head tends to be a lot shallower and calmer than Kiawah. You are only a short drive from Savannah so you can still get a bit history if you want.

I wouldn’t do it this year but you can also fly, which you can’t do to Kiawah.

They are almost incomparable. There are many, many, many more people at HHI. On the plus side, there are a lot of restaurants, but you won't have the beach almost to yourself like at Seabrook.

I personally like Hilton head much better than kiawah. I liked the sea pines area a lot.

If you’re trying to avoid vivid, avoid HH. It was PACKED over the holidays while KI was very sane and practically empty.

OP here. Thanks. Yes were are, and this confirms what we already suspected. I am curious to try HHI someday and see Savanah but I think we will save that for after Covid.

I think it depends when you go. We went to kiawah during the summer and felt very uncomfortable at the pool. We had a private house with heated pool in Hilton head and it was so easy to get delivery and groceries delivered. We could not get delivery or groceries delivered at kiawah and the Harris teeter at the entrance of kiawah was packed everyday we were there with a line out the door. I felt much safer getting my groceries delivered in Hilton head with my private pool and beach. JMO.

I agree with this. I go to both frequently for work.

We always do a private house with heated pool on Kiawah. Rental companies like Akers Ellis have a service to stock the home with groceries before you arrive, or you can call ahead for pickup at Walmart, Harris Teeter etc.

Depending on who you rent from on kiawah, you do not have access to kiawah amenities.

At the end of the day, people love kiawah or Hilton head. I’m a five star resort or luxurious huge beach house type of person and I like Hilton head much better. I was expecting five star luxury at kiawah and it fell short for me personally. I am not interested in going back for a second chance. I would gladly return back to Hilton head.

Unfortunately once you start hanging out at a pool or getting drinks at the Atlantic Room, unfortunately, you are introducing a covid risk that OP didn't seem to want.

I used to like HHI better, but now I prefer Kiawah. I don't mean to sound elitist, but the folks at HHI make me feel like I am at Ocean City. It didn't used to be that way.

Pp who liked HHI better. We haven’t spoken to anyone in HHI so I can’t judge the people. We have stayed to ourselves. The people at kiawah were very friendly when we went in the summer. They absolutely were our kind of people - seemed liked UMC families.

We know many people in DC who love and rave about Kiawah. That is why I was expecting so much and was disappointed.

PP here, I get it. I wonder if the OP has tried Bald Head Island.
