Do your sheet sets match?

Anonymous
What do you do when a part your matching sheet set is garbage? For example sometimes a bottom sheet will rip. Do you throw out the whole set? Or use mismatched sheet sets?

I only use white bed sheets with extra deep pockets and solid color comforters. It is easier to wash and it is never mismatched.

The same for my bath rugs and bath towels/sheets. Everything is white colored.

Mismatched

I only buy white sheets. Boring but everything looks like it matches even when it doesn't.

We have all white sheets.

But I've never had a sheet set wear unevenly, or one part get destroyed.

It happens very rarely, but I typically just put the other pieces back in the closet and use it with coordinating sets and comforters. I live at the beach though, so a bit of an eclectic touch is not out of place.

Happens all the time to me.

I keep them for the times when I need to put a sheet on the couch for some reason, or to use as drop cloths.

What about pillow cases?

This has only happened to me once but I just said goodbye to the whole set. It had lasted I think 7 years though.

I like colorful duvet covers and single-color bottom sheets. I buy 2-3 bottom sheets + pillowcases in colors that look nice with the duvet color. For example, if I had this duvet cover...

...I would get sheets/pillowcases that pick up on the pink + ones that pick up on the light/dark blue -- or even yellow. And if it's just a color that coordinates, it's easier to replace and mix & match with new sheets/duvet colors.

We discontinued use of a top sheet and wash the duvet covers more frequently instead.

Explain your fury???

It never occurred to me to keep the set if part of it got ruined. I like colored sheets, and the color is often what starts to fade. I'll trash the whole set if it's ripped or discolored. I have one set that just got a rip in a corner of the fitted sheet but I'll use it a little while longer while I look for another set to replace it.
