Tokophobia

Anyone deal with it throughout their pregnancy?

I mean not phobia but anyone who isnt' a little bit worried about childbirth is in serious denial.
Maybe try some type of Hypnosis?

Yes. Had a c-section at my request.

My OB agreed to an elective c-section. It's upcoming so I can't tell you how it will go, but my anxiety went waaaay down once my date for the c-section was set.

Yes! But it's the thought of having to do a c-section and epidural that scares me the most.

I'd never choose to have a major surgery unless medically necessary. Epidural is a breeze, OP. You can go to sleep, rest and wake up when it's time to push.

Just had a great appointment with my Dr. and talked about a plan and he would be willing to do this for me, too. Did you start worrying about fears of child birth in second trimester like me? On top of the worry, worried about whether this "worry" is irreversible and will inevitably cause behavioral probs in a child. In Therapy about it and they say all will be fine. Lets hope.

Are you doing a regular birth? How far along are you?

good to know. And I agree! I don't know if I have a phobia per se, but I have the usual generalized anxiety and then on top of that some moments in a day here and there of "holy shit I'm terrified and feel doom" Not sure if you can relate. then i become obsessed with whatever it is scaring me and turn to god awful google. Had a great dr app today and feel much better, he said he has seen much worse then me (in terms of anxiety)

No good doctor would agree to unnecessary major surgery!

Sounds like her doctor agreed to was necessary for her overall health so there’s no problem here

No, I had always had a horror of pregnancy and birth, and for a long time thought I didn't want children as a result. Agreed to get pregnant with the intent to seek a c-section and pay out of pocket if necessary. I was nervous until it actually happened, though -- worried I'd go into labor unexpectedly and the on-call doc would refuse to operate. I'd hoped for twins or a breech baby for that reason. I had a normally positioned singleton, uncomplicated surgery on date as planned, and good recovery ... But as soon as DC was born I was back to being horrified by pregnancy. Did not have a second child.

I did see a therapist several months after delivery for PPA fears about my child's safety, and in hindsight it's obvious I am an anxious person overall. However, the birth thing is very specific and feels different from other anxieties. My sister also has the same feeling about birth. We have discussed and can't think of any experience or family circumstance that would make us both feel that way.

My DC is 7 and fantastic. She's probably a bit anxious but I'd attribute that to genetically anxious parents and grandparents, not my feelings during pregnancy.

Hormonal PPA can occur before birth as well as after, I'm glad you're in therapy.
