| There's a discussion on the off-topic forum about the closing of White's Ferry, but I thought I'd ask this forum about it: How many of you (us) commuted between Fairfax and Montgomery counties for work, before the pandemic? Did you use White's Ferry as a practical alternative to the American Legion Bridge? |
|
I stopped using whites ferry when they put up a trump sign in 2015.
Glad their business failed. |
| My husband commutes and never did as we are downcountry and it wasn't any time saver and cost. |
| I suspect there is also more to them closing than reporting, such as not many people crossing as a lot of jobs are now work from home. |
Reduced revenue doesn't help, but it's just a fight between two owners, both of which need each other, to determine who gets a bigger share of the revenue. The Virginia side property owner and the ferry owner both need to agree on how to split the revenue because they each own part of the whole of what's needed for the ferry to operate. Hard to know who's being unreasonable without knowing the revenues and expenses involved. |
Two problems with this. First, business did not fail. Second, who put the Trump sign up -- Ferry owner or VA land owner? |
Whites Ferry’s info is detailed in the court proceedings. |
| The VA land owners don’t need the revenue. That little bit would be irrelevant to their wealth. They are massively wealthy. |
Yeah I always hope people I don't agree with politically fail in all aspects of their life.
|
| There needs to be a bridge there. This ferry nonsense is absurd. |
Yes!! This throwback to a calmer, more rustic life is nonsense!! Build the bridge so we can have more concrete instead of a dam ferry!! |
Ahh...the tolerant left strikes again. |
| Guess y'all are going to have to ford that river from now on. |
Finally all those hours playing Oregon Trail will come in handy! |
Why? So that residents of rural western Montgomery County can enjoy living with more through-traffic, which will of course require bigger roads, all of which will be paid for by Maryland taxpayers? |
