Republicans in Reston?

Are there any other Republicans in Reston? I don't belong here. I feel so alienated from everyone I thought were friends.

I feel your pain, Republican in Arlington. Trump is an idiot, but Dems are nuts.

Republicans are pretending the Tea Party, Sarah Palin, and George W Bush never happened. But Mitch McConnell is here to tell you that Republicans have been bent on paralyzing and destroying the country long before Trump.

I work in Reston. There are some nice people there too but it is full of very outspokenly woke white people that are oddly also extremely entitled. At least in Reston they do allow their children to play with their less privileged neighbors- unlike some rich progressive areas where "Hate has no home here" but neither does anyone without gobs of money.
Reston was developed as a progressive experiment in mixed housing with green space and hidden retail and infrastructure so progressive neighbors should be expected there. The idea is ethnic and economic diversity but idealogical unity.
I am always thankful to get home from work to my more culturally diverse walkable neighborhood with a mix of ethnicities, religions AND political viewpoints.

What specifically about your political party alienates you from your Democratic neighbors?

This was not the goal of Reston. And "ideological unity" stands at odds with "democracy."

We are all in Great Falls, nearby. Go to the Starbucks in Great Falls center and you will find your people everywhere.

Reston is the home of government workers and government contractors, quite a few in the national defense sector. They have lived the sh*tshow and are over what the Rs have become. They are moderates, and the Rs have lost them. I think you need some to do some introspection about why you think your identity is so tied up in this.

I feel your pain. I’ve been a democrat all my life but would now call myself a republican. Secretly. I cannot abide by the closing of the schools indefinitely and all the stupid nonsense like latinx, defunding police, etc. I also think Trump is a narcissistic moron.

I’m alone here!

I’ve started listening to commentary magazine podcast. Really smart people who give me some hope that I’m not totally alone.

I don’t think most Democrats want to close schools indefinitely—I’m pretty liberal but also in favor of keeping schools open, when possible to do so with appropriate risk mitigation in place. I know many other liberal films who agree with the science that schools are not contributing to spread. Doesn’t make us Republican.

Yep. School and business closings are just another Republican talking point to demonize Democrats. Just like the flag. Many Republicans seem to think they are the only ones with a flag in front of the house. Nope, many of us Democrats are true patriots and want to defend our constitution. Republicans are nationalists, not patriots.

Probably you're alone because you're the only person in the US who switched parties to become a Trump-hating Republican? Generally, what Trump-hating Republicans are doing now is: becoming Trump-hating former Republicans.

Tons of republicans in McLean. I was surprised to see how many sub-districts that Trump won in McLean. You can check it out by each neighborhood.

I'm a conservative who has lived in all of VA, DC, and MD over the past 15 years. My advice is to remember that your political identity isn't a substitute for a personality, and find other people who know that as well.
