Republicans in Reston?

This is interesting. I actually don't find the democrats in Reston very liberal. They talk a good talk but I don't actually think they care about low income or non-white people. In general golf courses are terrible for the environment. I only support not developing the public golf course for thr sake of access to anyone who wants to play or learn to play golf. The developers can have the private golf course. I hope they build a mix of low income and actual middle income housing with a new library!

I’m always baffled by these posts complaining about politics in any particular area. I’ve never really noticed or been bothered by the politics of where I live. I vote, I stay informed, but what my neighbors do or don’t believe doesn’t bother me. This is true of whether I lived ina very conservative or very liberal area. Politics is just not the center of my life.

Isn't the population primarily defense contractors?

Pp here. I don't know any defense contractors in Reston.

Family members live in Reston and have found it to be very heavily republican.

This is a “you” problem. You are so wrapped up in your political identity you can’t think of any other basis for friendship? I HATE Trump and don’t respect any Republicans that stayed after he took over the party (my husband left). But I am friends with someone who was in the administration. They have their views and I have mine. It’s easy, we talk about the myriad of other things people were able to talk about before Trump.

At least in Reston they do allow their children to play with their less privileged neighbors- unlike some rich progressive areas where "Hate has no home here" but neither does anyone without gobs of money.
Reston was developed as a progressive experiment in mixed housing with green space and hidden retail and infrastructure so progressive neighbors should be expected there. The idea is ethnic and economic diversity but idealogical unity.
I am always thankful to get home from work to my more culturally diverse walkable neighborhood with a mix of ethnicities, religions AND political viewpoints.

This was not the goal of Reston. And "ideological unity" stands at odds with "democracy."

But not the Democratic Party.

I have plenty of friends who were Republicans when I met them.

But they don’t support evil and unconstitutional acts, so they don’t support Trump.

It says something about you as a person to support Trump

Please list every unconstitutional act and the article they violate

They've been going to court to get Article II, Section 1, clauses 2 and 3 ignored and now that they've failed you have presidential advisors pushing for Marshall law

“Marshall Law” LOL

I think the spelling in this thread implies that many of the posts are written by Russian social media manipulation program trainees.

People who can't talk with their American neighbors unless they agree with them politically are useful idiot sheep. Don't let yourself be polarized like this - read 1984 and understand the game that is being played here to monetize your anger and fears.

If I had to split the country into groups it would be into "basically good people" (70%+) and "selfish a-holes who talk a big talk about values and freedom but are essentially Un-American", "The weak/scared who want a strong leader", and "dumb people who wish they were smarter, but feel comfort in wrapping their identity in that of a political party rather than having independent thoughts". Only you know what group you are in - but it isn't fixed. Sit down with one of your "liberal" neighbors over a drink on this Memorial day - don't preach, "educate" or argue - just listen and try to find the good and the common ground. You may find that underneath the roles you have been given to play you actually fundamentally agree on quite a lot compared to say a Putin.

We have had 25 years of people trying to pull down our once great county by sowing the seeds of division - from Murdoch, to Putin, Trump - so many have profited hugely on hate. It is you choice to not be a pawn in that game.

We'll find out how many Republicans are in Reston when they begin to develop Reston National and will need the help to fight off the anti-development Dem crowd.
