DH has been talking lately about retirement ideas, which is a long ways off, but he seems to be falling in love with the idea of building a retirement home in the mountains. I really haven't given it much thought and love it where we are now. Part of me wouldn't mind staying here and part of me wouldn't mind a change of scenery. I've always been a city girl, but could perhaps deal with a charming smaller town if I didn't completely feel like I was in the boonies. But to DH, the more secluded the better. He mocks me for being such an urbanite. I don't know if we'll ever agree on where we'll end up, so luckily that decision is a long ways off.
Where do you think you will retire? |
Manhattan |
I fell in love with Vermont during my college years in New England. Hope to buy a house and retire there some day... |
Djibouti! |
North Cleveland Park |
Not here. Shoot me first. |
A lot will probably depend on where my son lives and whether he has kids, etc. I don't want to be an intrusive MIL, but don't really want to live on opposite coasts either. Ideally, it will be somewhere warm, near a major airport, and with excellent medical care. |
Cape Cod, but not sure we want to be there year round so we would probably spend 6+ months there and 6 months here for a while. I'd want a big house there and a small house or apartment here. Once it became too expensive or difficult to maintain both not sure which we would pick. |
Houseboat in Europe |
After all this snow, definitely somewhere sunny and warm, but I really would like to live part of the year in NYC. |
Australia |
Sounds kind of lonely to uproot and go somewhere you don't know anyone. I'll probably stick around here and hope my daughter does too. I'm sure my son and my future daughter (son?? ha) in law won't want us around. Seems to be the way it works. |
I would think it would be cool to be around our kids, at least one of them. But I know it doesn't work out that way. I also really want my kids to go away to college and to live somewhere other than where they grew up for a few years. I think that's important. But I'd like to be close enough to drive to my grandkids (rather than fly). My parents live less than two hours a way and are a huge help, and we see them a lot. It is so nice. |
Me too! It's where I grew up and hope someday to return. Also, NYC is great for retirees - easy to get around and lots to do. |
Someplace where I won't have to drive to go shopping and get some culture. |
