Am I reading this correctly? They are basically interviewing only the top students from across DC. If you don't have a 3.75 or higher from last year odds are you won't get in.

| No that’s not how I am reading it. Why do you think there are 500 students with a 3.75? |
|
(Or better).
And what does ‘lottery status’ mean? |
Staus refers to your master lottery number. If 10 kids have the same combined score for GPA and interview, they'll list those kids in order of their 'master' lottery number. Good luck to all! |

that is unfortunate
my SWW was at Deal and never made Principal's Honor Role. Friends who were on Principal's Honor Role took the test and did not make the cut-off. We are close enough to some of this to know how much work parent's did for assignments significantly impacted grades at Deal. |
There will be some deserving students who don’t get interviews this year, but there always are. They could no securely offer an admissions test so this is the best option. |

I wonder what the GPA cut-off will end up being. My kid has had a 4.0 through Deal and knows a crew (maybe 8 kids?) who have also had straight As.
Most want to got to Walls and they're all really academic (they're the kind of kids who do math club, ,Model UN, debate, etc). My own kid is not really interested in Walls. I imagine out of 500 kids, maybe 200 will come from Deal? 100 from Hardy? 150 from other publics ? 50 from privates and charters? I bet the GPA gets down to around 3.5 or even lower. It's a lot of spots to fill. |
| No easy answers this year, but this is tough. Not all schools in the area are equally hard/easy, and GPA doesn't give the full story. |
Especially when DCPS adopted a massive extra credit policy and a ton of kids ended up with inflated grades at the end of the last school year. The lowest grade my 8th grader got term 4 last year was 170.3 |
and my ADHD student who performed really well in the classroom tanked during DL i am curious how 504 students did the 3rd and 4th advisory. I know that for the 1st advisory this year the data shows that students with IEPs, 504s, or at-risk have performed worse vs peers. How can this be a equitable manner of selection? |
| Well it’s not as bad as last spring, but all Dcps secondary students now get 50% in Aspen for missing assignments and at least a 63 for any assignment turned in (no matter how poorly done). |
I am being 100% sincere in asking this: what would be a better way to do this knowing that entrance exam can’t be given securely? |
Top 300 students by GPA and then go by lottery. The interviews are BS and no one should be meeting up inside regardless. |
Walls doesn’t take kids with IEPS and barely takes kids with 504s. So in this sense it doesn’t matter how these kids are performing. They aren’t welcomed at the school. |
I’m sure the interviews will be virtual. But I don’t disagree with the fact that they are totally subjective. |
