This has been all over my Facebook feed. Teachers promoting this petition for MCPS not to change its metrics for reopening.
Is this even a consideration? Seems u likely that metrics will change anyway. https://www.change.org/p/montgomery-county-board-of-education-don-t-change-the-metrics |
Unlikely |
Does MCPS adopt the metrics or does the BOE? Obviously, all done in consultation with Gayles. If BOE has to approve, then it's possible they'll change it. But MCPS clearly has no intention of bringing kids back anytime soon. |
If Dr. Gayles could provide robust scientific evidence supporting these metrics, which are more conservative than those proposed by CHOP, that would be a start.
It's the ones who claim to support these metrics "for the children" that get me. Do they honestly think we believe that at this point? |
The petition states the metrics is aligned with CDC guidelines, but in reality it is NOT, CDC guidelines do not say the metrics has to be less than 5 for ALL children to return to school. Those metrics are all MCPS. |
Funny how it says "Responsible Citizen" started the petition, and they don't actually put their real name on it.
I wonder why... |
Because we all know, cough cough... it’s a really a lazy teacher enjoying her home. |
Or, even worse, It's somebody who has a financial incentive for continued distance learning. Somebody that profits from kids staying at home |
You might want to get that cough looked at. There’s a pandemic, you know. |
Who profits from kids staying at home? Zoom? |
People that started private, for-profit tutoring businesses in the area back in the spring. People that built a platform to recruit tutors and connect them with families And are now advocating for continued distance learning. Because distance learning results in more need for their service |
Why would they go against these best practices and put people's lives at risk? To placate a few whiners who are demanding their free daycare? |
How big of a population can this group of people be? My thinking it’s the teachers and teachers union protecting* the teachers not the students. |
The population is small, but they are exploiting people's fears for their own financial gain. And they are damaging our kids to line their pockets |
The size of the population is irrelevant. It's how much impact they have. And a single person, who is not being truthful about their intentions, can have a huge impact |
