Richmond Public Schools virtual for the rest of SY

Obviously a small school division, but will this be the first domino in coming months?

Probably. I wouldn’t be surprised if our post holiday numbers stay elevated so long 6-12 gets scuttled and only k-5 and sped make it back in. They are so shockingly high and we are still 6 weeks out from the Christmas and new year gathering spoke. Richmond calling it now just puts people out of their misery of endlessly thinking it’ll magically happen any months now.

no way FCPS is going back this year.

I don't need an announcement to know that FCPS is not going back this year.

I doubt we are going back this year either, but I don't get why they don't keep the possibility open. If most adults can be vaccinated by April, it may be possible to return at that point for the last quarter.

They are poor and so are most of their students. And for whatever reason there seems to be a correlation between DL and low income.

Its apples to oranges with schools up here.

It won’t be most and it will still only be the first dose for those who get it by then

“For whatever reason” actually there’s many and they’re well known. This isn’t a mystery.

I agree but would extend it to all of 2021, too. Maybe they'll come back into school Jan 2022.

So why is FCPS still virtual with no plan to return?

Where are you getting the information that they will go through the first dose for everyone and then move to the second? From what I am reading, they will space it apart in a way that some people get 2 doses and some still have none.

Oh I'm well aware what DCUM thinks the reasons are. I just think low-income folks are being really short-sighted with their preference for DL. Their kids get less out of DL than their wealthier counterparts, I think we can all agree.

Actually, no, I presume that they know their own situation and circumstances better than I do, since they are living it and I am not.

NP. So far I have read only a few direct quotes, and even those are purporting to sum up an entire group of people in a school district. I actually really, really want to hear it from the source - anyone who can point me to the actual data I'd appreciate it.
