Then people in here give those two statements 100% equal weight. I have no idea whats going to happen because I think theres a lot of behind the scenes power struggles, but like, it's clear ECNL USYS and AYSO prefer SY, they never wanted to go BY in the first place, they all said that, and they do care about trapped players. Whether they can fix it, who knows, but it's not true to say they don't care of have an opinion.

Yeah the mental gymnastics some people go through to convince themselves that it’s gonna stay BY…when the evidence is to the contrary, but again it’s all gonna be fine.

Different age groups have different dynamics.

For youngers SY or even God forbid GY makes a lot of sense. The games don't matter that much so whatever grade you're in school is the grade you play in.

For olders especially in high level competitive leagues SY doesn't matter and GY would just invite cheating (like you see in basketball and lacrosse with "regraders"). For this group BY makes the most sense because it's easy to administer for clubs and aligns to international norms.

Unfortunately there isn't a one size fits all option.

Yeah align with international norms for the .001% of players that impacts.

Clubs and Leagues don't advertise by highlighting the "achievements" of youngers. They sell the dream by showing off olders.

What this means is that competitive olders might be a small percentage of the overall number of players. But what they do, how they play, wins/losses, achievements are amplified. This is why olders leagues might stay BY.

Where you are going wrong -- where this whole thread has gone off the rails is that ecnl is not talking in any meaningful way about SY. They have made a few comments -- that is all. So no -- everytime ecnl leadership talks they do not mention SY. The have hardly mentioned it at all.

I wish that I could be this delusional and just deny reality.

That pretty much sums up everything in our country right now.

And yet that can be accomplished with no international play required.

Where is the official statement from ECNL or any organization that says they want SY? Not a post on a message board, an actual press release that states their stance. Not an opinion stated in a podcast. An actual official statement.

Well if competitive D1 college teams will be aligning with the pro-model being talked about for 2026, then older competitive youth teams will follow BY.
Rec (for younger) and regional (for less competitive) will be SY. Something to meet everybody’s needs and still work for competitive levels of soccer.

Have you listened to the podcasts from the CEO of the ECNL? I’m guessing that’s a no.

That's fair, I haven't seen one from ECNL specifically, but they are under the US Club banner and US Club has put out several statements.

A little old now but "we support these efforts" this is the official statement saying they want SY https://www.usyouthsoccer.org/news/2024/10/23/us-youth-soccer-us-club-soccer-ayso-statement-on-forthcoming-u-s-soccer-decision-on-calendar-year-vs-birth-year-registration/

Wish we could all see the IP addresses of all these post. I wonder if 80% of all these posts are the same 6 people arguing every day.

I would venture to say that it is even less than 6.

Hahaha, this is your statement? This only says they support the efforts to review the impact on the change to BY since 2017. It doesn't say they support changing to SY. OMG!

I wish I was naive enough to believe a change to SY won’t be coming in Fall 2026. Even when they make the formal statement (at the end of February or early March), some people will still believe the change to SY is not happening at ECNL. Truly astonishing.

OMG!!! Only if you have the reading comprehension ability of a 5 year old. It's there right in front of your face.
