| Thoughts? Specifically looking into Jacobs School of Music but would take opinions on IU as a whole as well! Thanks! |

It’s getting popular with students from the DMV as a reliable safety for outstanding students. Merit aid is awarded to these students. Search for prior threads. Your student must be very talented if they are considering Jacobs.
Beautiful campus, great town. |
| Excellent Music school. Nice campus. Good campus town. 45 miles to go to the nearest city - Indianapolis. BWI to Indianapolis - inexpensive Southwest direct flights. A true city is Chicago - about 3 hrs drive. |
| Jacobs is one of the best music schools in the country. My violin playing dd is a junior, extremely talented, and wants to major in music but also wants all the trappings of a more traditional college experience (so a Berklee or Curtis is out). She plans to apply there. Some of the other schools she/we have considered are Michigan, Texas, and Northwestern. |

My husband got his master’s and doctorate in piano performance from IU. It’s an excellent school for music. He’s now a piano professor at a DC university.

I went there for undergrad many years ago and absolutely loved the campus. A bit of culture shock for me being from NY (though there were other kids from my graduating class there and it is/was popular with the east coast crowd).
Went to many of the music school performances. Lots of good theater. There is a big greek system on campus and that dominates a bit but like many colleges, there is plenty to do if you don't rush. |
| Fantastic school |
| The music school is very good, everyone I know who went to IU loved it. I grew up nearby. |
| Never heard of it. |
| Rolling admissions is nice. Good business school. |
My kid’s at Purdue, so I’m with this guy. Seriously, we toured it and loved it. Great school and great college town. |
| Great school, great music school, great town. You can't go wrong. Several of my friends and a family member went there and loved it, now a friend's daughter is going there and loves it. Lots of international students. It's a fun place to go to school. And after Covid blows over, this generation of kids is going to need fun. I can think of 3 people (at least) I know who went to the music school and are professional musicians (teaching, performing, strings and voice). |

My DD applied last year to the Jacob and was not accepted. It's a very competitive school, particularly for certain studios. I found college confidential to be more helpful in looking for feedback about music programs at different schools than DCUM if you are looking for more insight.
My understanding is Jacob leans very classical and I think wouldn't have been a good fit anyway for my DD, but it was disappointing. Also, just FYI - they send the academic admission info way before the music acceptance so my DD had a very early acceptance on the academic side and then had to wait several months to find out she wasn't accepted to the music program. Good luck. |
| It’s a great school but if your DC is a POC please be careful off campus. It is scary redneck if you tiptoe just a few blocks in the wrong direction. |
| Was there an incident there? |
