That 'No. 1 ranked team' - SDOR - isn't the same squad as in previous seasons (lost players to DCU) and probably weren't the No 1 team, anyway...so the context you are providing is incorrect. Barca 05 Yellow is a mid level travel team. |
I think it was brilliant to place that academy where they did. Right in the middle of upper middle + income America. Very shrewd move to make lots of $$ from the jaded parents of those kids not taken in on the A or B teams of nearby clubs. Absolutely brilliant! |
| Both Barca 05 teams are playing in the same flight in the EDP winter tournament this weekend https://events.gotsport.com/events/results.aspx?EventID=68058&Gender=Boys&Age=14. In internal 05 matches Blue usually beats Yellow. I expect both teams will face a tough challenge against these other EDP teams. The blue team is ranked 30th in VA but that’s mainly from winning spring tournaments when some really good 06s were on the 05 team. That’s probably how they ended up in too high a EDP division |
Well, duh. Sell your product where people will buy it. Doesn’t take a genius. This isn’t the only area. Barca Academies opened or coming soon in Austin, Chicago, San Diego, other places |
Some 05s are also playing on the 04 team. |
Very true which I view as a positive for Barca in the long term. They move players to benefit player development often at the expense of winning games, especially in the younger age groups. |
Not Barca related but I am pretty sure I have seen this coach in action at a U9 game earlier this season.
|
I cannot speak about SDOR roster changes, but it is a tough division with two out of top three Maryland teams. By the way, despite the tough results in the league play, this Barca Blue 05 team knocked out Bethesda Blue from the EDP conference cup. Barca 05 Yellow is the second Barca team in this age group and it did OK in their EDP division. |
Aren't all the EDP teams playing? |
Not all. Tournament is open to non EDP teams I think. Barca has 4 teams going. |
I see. I know the 05 boys are going and the 03 boys are sending a team. Who else? |
| one of the 04 boys teams |

For those of you that didn't attend, the Next Level meeting was very good. This is a step in the right direction, and as with all things Barça does, it was well done. I liked how they laid it out, and I liked that they offer support for players who are going to play collegiate soccer but also professional soccer. I've never seen a club offer both like that.
I can't wait to get the email copy of the powerpoint. |
For those not in the know, please explain what is Next Level? |
|
Next Level is a program Barça just started (in Nova at least). It's a program for the older kids to help them with college and professional placement. They went over the process for each one, had scouts there from colleges we could ask questions of, and showed what their plan was to help with the process. They talked about do's and dont's. They showed a sample of the hand outs they have been giving out at our showcases. Stuff like.
