I guess it comes down to will USSF give US Club permission to change early. My insider at ECNL told me ECNL has a good chance to start in 2025. It all comes down to will US Club and USSF be on board for an early switch. Also you’re assuming that this is the first vote and not the final vote. This has been a discussion for a while. |
US Club and other governing bodies will more than likely start Fall 2026. If approved will not be Fall 2025. Is what I’m told. But this is definitely being discussed and will be decided in the next few months. |
You're describing the process to change a bylaw or policy. https://www.ussoccer.com/governance/legal/how-are-ussf-bylaws-amended https://www.ussoccer.com/governance/legal/how-are-ussf-policies-amended As another poster said, that's not how it was done last time. No mention of the change in the AGM in 2015 (before the change) or 2016 (after the change). https://cdn.sanity.io/files/oyf3dba6/production/8ca7e73ee5276d59eddbd21628b287e285c603e2.pdf https://cdn.sanity.io/files/oyf3dba6/production/424827dfbee0fb0fd7522b62992e4a45b693ea66.pdf The age cutoff was a player development initiative, not appearing in the bylaws or policies. https://web.archive.org/web/20150905061349/http://www.ussoccer.com/coaching-education/resources/2015-player-development-initiatives https://ussoccer.app.box.com/s/ummpm6cykczn0qcl1zolp32j5yj6qole https://ussoccer.app.box.com/s/d17mtf22sltr4k8r7513970c13almooo Everything people are describing seems to indicate that this would more likely be done in a Youth Council meeting, which can be called at any time with 15 days notice. https://cdn.sanity.io/files/oyf3dba6/production/213abedd6ebd19b5aadf7b1ffb4ee4735c6028b7.pdf Is there a non-DCUM and non-Reddit source that supports that this requires an official Bylaw or Policy change at a US Soccer AGM? |
One way or the other this will be wrapped up in November. When the official announcement would come I have no idea because they haven’t gotten to that point. I know ECNL will let its clubs know ASAP. |
| Does anyone know when this secret meeting is taking place? Other than November. |

I have two kids to play and both will be impacted by this if it happens...one positive and one negative. So i'm indifferent.
However, those who are definitively staying it won't happen are so smug that it would be great if it did. |
| Someone mentioned that Surf ECNL held a meeting with parents about this before last weekend's game. Is it San Diego Surf? |
100% Half of the posts are some variation of "Won't happen", "Git gud", "Toughen up buttercup" and I just want to rub their smug faces into the dirt. All the argument's have been made and the thread has devolved into the naysayers and hot rumors. |
In the bylaws and policy docs, it defined youth as under 20 and says that the seasonal soccer year is Sept 1-Aug 31 (what that means idk) but didn't define youth age year categories for teams. So there is nothing to officially change in those documents. |
| MLS biobanding here. Looking forward to joining ECNL if they change to grad year. It makes kids feel better to join the same grade in ECNL than biobanding in MLS to play in the same grade. ECNL will get many MLS players by switching to the school year. It is a good move for ECNL. |
Feel free to ignore of course but curious about the late developer status at MLS Next. Did you have to do anything (forms, doc checkup, etc) or did the club get it approved and does it automatically apply to years going forward. Thanks. |
They measured your height, and the club will do all the paperwork for you. We do not like biobanding as he is the only one. It is like "play down," since you can not play in your age group. Two other late birthday players in his team refuse to do biobanding. If ECNL changes to 7/1 to 6/30, he and the other two players will be in the middle of the pack and feel more comfortable " playing down." |
| I know three trapped eighth graders from San Diego Surf ECNL and RL players who are joining an MLS team so they can still have a team to practice and play games during the high school season. If ECNL changes to grad year in 2025, I bet these three players will come back to Surf. |
Yes, leave the top league to play a league down because you can play with people in the same grade as you but in different schools. Also, what medication did you miss today why you associate biobanding with wanting to play with schoolmates? How many kids on a MLS Next team go to the same school? |
You posted this madeup story earlier in the thread |
