Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
I'm not a fan on McKnight, but this isn't on her alone. The only superintendent we've had in the past 20 years that was with his salt was Josh Starr. And look what happened to him. |
| What steps have you taken to rectify this situation other than complaining here? Discuss |
Are you suggesting that parents should be able to rectify the corrupt and ineffective public school system in Montgomery County? Please do tell us how! |
Oh hi mcps central office |
Teachers have tried to utilize the designated complaint process and faced retaliation on top of being ignored. What would make you think that teachers wouldn’t face the same treatment from exit interviews? Many people who are leaving right now are not retirees. They might need references at some point in the future. It’s never a good idea to burn bridges as you exit. |
Let’s continue the victim blaming that gets out on teachers: Have you tried building a relationship? Have you called home at least three times? What can you do to better understand the person? Are you sure your biases are not the problem? Etc… |
Actually, I think the PP is correct. People should take action beyond complaining on this board. One thing would be to email/call your BoE representative and tell them you want to see a hearing on this topic. They have the ability to call McKnight in front of them and ask what she knew and when. Another would be to lean on Jawando in particular and let him know that he should be calling for an impartial and independent investigation by a firm/organization unaffiliated with MCPS. Jawando is running for Senate. This is a chance for him to grandstand if he thinks the political winds are blowing against MCPS |
I’ve actually utilized the complaint process for an employee at a different school. Same result as the teachers in the Washington Post article. I was ignored and faced harsh retaliation. There needs to be an IG investigation into all the complaints of sexual harassment and bullying. A larger investigation will show the rot that runs through all levels of MCPS administration and the Board of Education. Part of the problem is that the General Counsel’s Office and outside lawyers tell MCPS staff and the Board how to squash complaints instead of listening to victims. They offer up the identities of the complainants so the sexual harasser/bully knows who to target. MCPS and the Board have unlimited legal representation so they can drag out indefinitely any legal proceedings and file suit against the complainant if they wish. |

One question that I have is did the 18 teachers know collectively about the other complaints? Were these complaints treated solely as individual complaints or were they collectively considered as multiple victims reporting similar misconduct?
I would think that employee records should have a collective record of all complaints made. At some point, Central Officials should have seen the pattern. Why were the victims ignored? What were they told and by whom after the initial MCPS investigation. |

The only thing that will ensure Biedleman is no longer receiving a MCPS paycheck is loud, visible, and continuous protest. That doesn’t happen on social media or email. All have buried their heads in the sand and are banking on waiting-out the initial rightful outrage.
McKnight views her job unfortunately as protecting the bureaucracy and lacks leadership. |

DP. Parents are voters. Contact the BoE and tell them what you want them to do. Then contact the County Council and tell them what you want the BoE to do and what you want them to do. Then get together with like-minded voters and organize: letter-writing campaigns, for example. Or public events, which you make sure the media know about. |
There should be a protest in front of the central office on 8/24 during the next BOE meeting. Invite the media and the public officials. Let advocates give speeches... Do this at every BOE meeting. This will put pressure on the BOE. Where are the union and the PTA, who are supposed to represent the teachers? |
They are USELESS! Neither are there when they are needed the most. |
Where are the women's groups in Montgomery County? Many female teachers have been sexually harassed for years, and MCPS have protected and promoted the perpetrators. Will there be one women's group who will lead a demonstration in front of the BOE? |
