No but the county council can remove board members if they’re not doing their jobs. They’ve been completely MIA since this broke so I’d say they’re not doing their jobs.

Uh they have at least commented on it. The BOE has been completely MIA. But you know you get what you pay for, we're paying each of the BOE members less than $30k.

Pay has nothing to do with it. They have given all their power to McKnight.

Maybe you should do that job since you can do it so well and don't care about the pay.

Things were better when BOE didn’t receive compensation. This $30k each should go in teachers pockets instead. Don’t be too surprised that they look the other way when it comes to cronyism and nepotism. Look into Karla Silvestre, Director of Community Engagement at Montgomery College known as the Ice Queen. She, herself, purposefully overlooked the best qualified internal candidate, who the Senior Vice President of Community Engagement at that time fully supported, for her then campaign manager. Once MC told her she was not allowed to do that, she hired her second friend in line to manage the team. This manager she hired bullies her staff on a daily basis and Karla has received plenty of complaints and instead always sides with the manager she hired. Sound familiar? So what can you expect from BOE if they are ok with this behavior of ignoring complaints and standing up for bullies when their president does the same thing. She’s a bully. A quiet one but a bulky indeed. MCPS is rotted from the top down. They love to just shift people around. Look into the teacher who passed away from Wood Middle School, retired with so much praise, although he had so many complaints and was accused of molesting some of his students. Nothing was ever done. They don’t care if they hurt staff, teachers, and worse our children because, just like several council members they are in it for the big salaries. All they care about is not getting caught or getting sued. I am happy this is coming to light and I hope many more people come out to speak their truths, especially students who are bullied by administrators, too. Our taxes increase for these mediocre and poor excuses in leadership to get paid. They are all cut with the same scissors. Believe me also when I say the minorities you see in these positions don’t even treat their own fellow minorities with respect. It becomes about power. Another example of MCPS covering their backs, the victim of the shooting at Magruder. Look back on how badly they treated that family. They care more about optics then our children. That have no business having the position as and pay they have. Central office is full of them. Also, look at how much they spent on “looking for new superintendents” knowing full well who they were going to hire. I agree, let’s get rid of these BOE members, Dr. McKnight (look how she got where she is), and anyone and everyone who knows about this man and did nothing. Worse thing though, we know this will all pass and nothing will happen to this man. He’s on paid leave while they investigate ALL of these allegations. And shame on this BOE of predominantly women who have ignored the very teachers and community members who put them where they are today. They should all lose their jobs. MCPS doesn’t care about our kids or our teachers, and administrators are all about power and pay. Nothing more nothing less. One more, look at how MCPS passed the blame to two non-profits when that contractor at Watkins Mill was having sex with a student in the building and having her perform sexual acts for months, he was allowed to stay in the building after the student came forward for months. Then they commented that they had no knowledge of this individual because he was contracted by another organization. Isn’t MCPS ultimately responsible to know EXACTLY who is in our schools, contractors or not. Many many many students, families, and staff complain about bullying, retaliation, harassment, etc and it fall on the ears of the predators themselves. It’s disgusting.

If you think pay matters why isn’t the council doing anything? They have lots of power and make tons of money.
The council can call a hearing monday, subpoena mcps administrators and put them under oath.
But no. They just collect their huge paychecks.
Happy with that?

Pg is sounding good right now.

Hell, Frederick looks good right now. As I said earlier, MCPS leaders know what they were doing when they headed over to FCPS.

Yup. If I’m any neighboring county, I’m making a subtle, strategic blitz for MCPS staff right now (who do the right thing). Morale is at rock bottom.

I'm a MCPS staff member who lives in Urbana and find myself more and more grateful each day that my kids attend FCPS. MCPS is in shambles right now.

It’s funny that you think FCPS is running without problems. Just goes to show that parents think different than employees.

As a parent who engaged and dealt with Karla in a smaller scenario, I can definitely see the quiet bully element you describe and she is very much an ice queen and not genuine.

The most warm and authentic members seem to be Grace Rivera-Oven, Julie Yang and Lynne Harris. Grace and Julie are new so they have yet to be jaded yet, and Lynne is fervent about the issues she’s passionate about (LGBT representation and environment) but she’s complacent on discipline, safety and security.

Would you be willing or able to run for an office that will take up a lot of your time, subject you to a lot of public criticism, and pay you $0? Me neither.

Wait- what happened at Wood MS? Is this different than the security guard who was caught showing porn to a kid?

No organization runs without problems but MCPS seems to be over their head in comparison to FCPS. There's a reason great leaders are fleeing while MCPS continues to accept lackluster leadership.

So what is the council’s education committee doing with the Beidleman affair? Nothing
