For one, an almost 2 hour restraint and seclusion eLearning when I don’t have the authority to restrain or seclude. |
Sorry, but that one is mandated for every single person in the school, including custodians. It’s about making sure you don’t assume the authority to do so. Cannot get out of that one. You can thank some teachers who did it inappropriately which resulted in the county getting sued. |
Do you have instructional coaches? |
DP Is that one mandated by law? Just curious. I’d have to go and look, but it seems as though I’ve had assigned MyPDE trainings on topics that didn’t meet VDOE requirements so I then had to complete additional trainings on the same topic that did meet the requirements. |
Well, you need to add 20% more instructional time to the FOUR weekdays to make it equivalent to FIVE instructional days. How many more hours per day is that? |
| The four days a week of instruction we had the whole year of covid resulted in kids being very, very, very behind. |
No. |
You do realize that most of that was online. Elementary students didn’t come back into the building until March. Even then, it was only 2 days a week. And some never came in until this past school year. You cannot compare that to 4 days in person. |
Monday would count as a day of asynchronous learning. |
As a Title 1 school with no instructional coach positions, can you explain how some non-Title 1 schools have them? How is it determined that a school gets a coach? Are all coach positions hired and paid for out of the individual school’s funds? Thanks. |
I'm the PP. Restraint and Seclusion took an hour even with the videos at double speed. I'm not restraining or secluding anybody. And why do we have to go through the Fairfax policy and then the state policy separately? Can't they just shorten it and point out the small differences? All the Kogito training that we had to do this year and last on counseling troubled students. I'm not a counselor and if I detect any hint of trouble, I'm going to let the counselor and social worker know immediately and have them deal with it. The only thing the training did is confirm to me that I'm really not competent at counseling. The Cultural Proficiency training modules which were long, condescending, and confusing--including to the staff who presented the last one and who seemed even more baffled by the content than we were (that's the reference above to the consultants who wrote the book that made no sense. The message seemed to be that if a student isn't doing well in your class, you should consider other qualities they have to evaluate their performance. Really?). As we discussed in groups, the only thing that was clear was that none of us really understood what this was about. Also please have them put in an option on all the training videos to allow us to speed them up. Very few allow that. The narration is so slow it puts you to sleep and I love the rare occasion when I can get through the training in half the time because I. don't. have. to. wait. for. the. lady to. slowly. enunciate. every. last. word. Thank you. |
Yes way too many CLT meetings.... especially if you are SPED or ESOL and required go to each grade level you work with. |
| I’m going to be looking for School Board candidates next year who make a convincing case they’ll focus on teacher salaries and decent facilities, and not forcing excessive training down teachers’ throats that detracts from their ability to plan for their classes, grade assignments, and work with students. The current School Board hasn’t met a fad it won’t immediately embrace, and we know what that means for the quality of classroom instruction. |

Are you a troll? Asynchronous learning is completely ineffective. |
