Who said anything about adding two hours to each day? |
Dear Administrator, Please ask Gatehouse to cut out the training that isn't mandated by law. Just because consultants and companies out there need to make $$$$ doesn't mean we should be on the receiving end of so much of their nonsense. |
Title 1 schools can be great places to work. I loved working there. Until all the coaches took over and the paperwork became hell and I wanted to cry everyday because I couldn’t get it all done. I would think about it again if there was a 4 day schedule AND we were allowed to teach without coaches breathing down our necks. |
Please give some examples of ones you’ve had to do in the last two years. Thanks. |
Two teachers here, both ES. Why would we be excited about 4 days of instruction vs 5? Please explain the benefit. I’m reminded of early release Mondays. They were often filled up with meetings. The same will happen with full day on Monday and anything I might get done that day will probably have to be tweaked by mid-week. I currently get 300 minutes a week for planning (an hour each day). 120 of those are spent in not-so-worthwhile CT meetings, after which I find I still have to plan and gather materials. Give me those 300 minutes, or at minimum 240, unencumbered so during the school day I can get done some of what I need to get done. I’ll be curious to know how much time we will be given before the students return. Out of 6 contract days it looks like 2 are listed as TW days, one of which can be used to complete MyPDE trainings and the other is scheduled for Open House. Add in all the BOY tasks and conferences with families prior to Open House prior to BTSN and we’re already behind by the second week of September. |
| If was 4 day a week and you could plan from home that would be great. |
I'm the mom who posted the list - I think the whole situation is really unfair to teacher and students. My child had a teacher who was attacked by a child one year and they still did not remove that child from her classroom. I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. |
Exactly this - all you're doing is screwing over the kids who NEED a five day a week education. |
I think going down to 1 CLT or 0 CLT is the answer. Teams will meet anyways. Imagine how much more would get done! |
Conferences with families before BTSN? What school is this? THAT is not anything I’ve ever heard of, and I’ve been teaching ES for a long time in the county. |
PP here. I’ve also been teaching a long time in the county. It’s a fairly new requirement to me too. This started at the beginning of last year and it is continuing this year. I am under the impression that it is at least a Region requirement, but I’m not 100% sure on that. When will I got them in? Planning time? I’m not one who normally complains, but I’m really trying to not fall behind and I’d like to avoid the 10+ hour days and planning during the evenings. |
+1 |
Fort Belvoir Upper? |
No. Are they doing that too? Meeting and communicating with families is not my issue. It’s the timing. It’s too much all at once with not enough time to accomplish it, and that’s what I was trying to point out. I don’t need a 4 day instructional week. I need things to be taken off the plate and the planning time I have now honored. |
Yes! We have to be babysat by Instructional Coaches and others in CLTs twice a week and waste our time with icebreakers and pretend planning. We get so much more useful planning done when we're meeting on our own. CLTs are the worst. Just for show. Hate them! |
