| Just for fun, how rich are the characters on this show? What about social classes? Who is supposed to be old money vs new money. Also how poor can the Humphries really be? Rufus must be worth at least 5-6 mil. |
|
Please leave these questions aside and just rejoice in the glorious clothes....
except when you are laughing at the hilarity of the clothes, including this classic Chuck Bass lewk
|
| The Humphrey kids were on scholarship. It was part of the plot. |

I love this show.
I watched it at 39 years old (for the first time). No way would I let my teen watch it (I don’t have teens); it was so saucy and risqué. But I loved it. |
| You can google the answers to ALL these questions. |
| My favorite storyline is when Dan "has" to go to NYU because he couldn't afford Yale. LOL. |
| I’m also rewatching it. Always loved it. Blair, Serena, Nate are all old money, multi hundred million dollar rich. Chuck bass clearly a billionaire. The Humphreys had their loft in Brooklyn before that was a thing, I guess? |
|
You know what always irritated me? How much Serena always said, "I don't know," as if she wasn't in charge of her own decisions and life.
Did you guys see Chuch Bass on the Oxford Union youtube channel? All the students just wanted him to talk about GG and you could tell he just wanted to scream "I'm NOT Chuck Bass!" |
Was Blair really old money? Her mom was a fashion designer but what about her grandparents and her father? |
Probably through her dad. Remember she did not want to be like her mom. Her dad was a lawyer. Chuck was definitely new money though. He had more money than all of them because of his dad dying. He had enough money to pay off Blair’s dowry so her family wouldn’t go bankrupt. |
| Where are you guys watching this? |
Blair had to work and so did her mom. So I saw them more as newer money. Chuck’s dad was a businessmen that I assumed was a family business passed down. I thought Chuck was old money. Not as old as Nate and Serena but definitely older than Blair. Perfect excuse for me to go rewatch for the 100th time. |
Netflix. |
No, Bart Bass was a self made man. |
So then only Nate and Serena were true old money? |
