"I support the teachers" people

Is there any point where you would think that enough's enough, we need to go back? It's fully conceivable that in fall 2021, we will be in a similar place as now: similar infection numbers, no pediatric vaccine, limited adult vaccine uptake and availability. Will you still be OK direct learning in 2021?

I support teachers and choice. As long as their is a DL option while we’re in a pandemic, then that’s fine with me.

Wow. Do you realize how long it will be a "pandemic"? So DL well into 2021 for you?

Listen, don’t ask and then WOW my response. If you don’t want to hear what People like me have to say why create a separate thread?

How about "People like you" actually answer the question? Do you know how long the pandemic could last? And you think DL should go all the way through til then in DC?

Since I have never been in a pandemic before, and most likely none of you have either because the last pandemic was 100 years ago, I will gladly sit it out. SO long as there is a DL option, I am happy.

I’m fine with that. Last I checked, the pandemic didn’t have an expiration date.

The mayor needs to figure out a plan WITH the teachers. Not by going around them. She has been operating in bad faith from the beginning and I don’t blame WTU for not trusting her.

Also, I checked my kid’s “reopen school plan” and not a single thing except for PPE is completed. These kids were supposed to go back Monday? Please.

If status quo continues I want in person schooling from April through October. Going back in winter as cases spike doesn’t make sense

No, and yes, because I'm normal and don't want to kill people. Some people, on the other hand, are crazy trolls who want to open schools willy-nilly and increase the death toll. I don't think we should listen to them.

This is a creative idea. If we must have a few months off, it can come during the winter/ holiday period. Not sure how feasible it is, but creative nonetheless.

So what will you do if WTU shoots that idea down too (they will). Will you still "support the teachers" in DL through next fall?

I support the teachers AND I want in-person school. I don't think they are mutually exclusive. I think if DCPS actually worked with the teachers (and parents) to develop a plan with actual buy-in, instead of hatching these plans at Central and then announcing them on the news and expecting everyone to hop on board without asking any questions, we could already be back in-person with some form of hybrid.

There are teachers who want to come back. There are also teachers who don't. There are logistical problems around staffing and how to create a concurrent model. The only way to solve those problems (and they are solvable) is to be working together with teachers to figure it out.

Except WTU already shot down hybrid. What will you do when they shoot it down again in July 2020?
