So he's an anti-semite, an anti-vaxxer and now apparently has no problems with racist protesters? Why does this guy keep getting passes? |
| I went his page on IG when this happened and he was getting flamed horribly and it was well deserved. It was utterly ridiculous and they should have gone to the Mayors house to the agency which gives out the contracts. |
| Yeah. He's bad news, and support for him reflects badly on his constituents. But the fact that people listen to him needs to be understood as part of the bizarroworld we find ourselves in. His continued prominence is really significant for understanding this moment. |
|
His constituents are the ones locked out of a labor market that is filled with underpaid undocumented immigrants.

In the article "D.C. Department of Employment Services’ “First Source” law requires that 51% of skilled workers hired on local development projects receiving more than $5 million in public funds are D.C. residents. MLK Gateway’s developers, including tech firm Enlightened Inc., also committed to 83% of their new hires being from the District for the first phase of construction, including 67% from Wards 7 and 8," From the District? How about living in the District and in the specific wards plus E Verify? That was the second phase of 1986 Reagan Amnesty- enforcement. Ignore TW's other issues but are citizen AA's cut out of jobs? Yes. |

And this exactly the reason why we need Hispanic representation on the DC Council. There are multiple good options running - I voted for Monica Palacio: https://www.monicafordc.com/.
VOTE! |
I agree, but we also need to get this dummy out. |
Well, honestly, unless he goes to prison or Ward 8 residents vote him out - it is difficult to do. There is almost zero accountability from the other councilmembers. When Trayon was making crazy anti-Semitic statements - Brandon Todd who represents, in part, heavily Jewish neighborhoods couldn't be bothered to put his sandwich down. Silverman (Jewish), Nadeau (Jewish) and Phil Mendelson (half-Jewish) thought Trayon a UMD grad just needed to be "educated" so they arranged a trip to the Holocaust museum - which Trayon bailed on. So we need to drown out his craziness with saner voices. And there are a lot of Hispanics living in DC. They deserve visible representation. |
Racist |
The DCist article is just a shameful display of journalism, which sadly has become par from the course for them. They accept his explanation without questioning even though he has a history of bigoted comments (which they faily to mention). And they they locked the comments section before barely any comments were made. It's nearly as chickenshit as GGW's cowardly co-endorsement of White, which didn't mention his past comments whatsoever, nor the fact that they endorsed him even though he has blocked nealry every measure that GGW supports in Ward 8 (they also deleted a sizable number of comments that simply pointed out White's terrible past). |
| He continues to be a real gem. He was on a vote for Democrats flyer that we received in our neighborhood last week and it kind of gave me pause. Like, that's who you put on there? He's supposed to be a feel-good candidate? Please. |
| It is really problematic that people are so tolerant of his anti-semitism. It's actually kind of racist, like b/c he's AA (despite having a college degree) he cannot be expected to not have ignorant views. As much as I detested W, accepting these illiberal views is "the soft bigotry of low expectations." That said, unless fellow councilmembers, the media, etc. start calling him on this problematic behavior - it is unlikely to convince Ward 8 voters to put up a better candidate. |
His fellow council members -- even the Jewish ones -- more or less applauded him for his phony, utterly insincere apology over his gross anti-Semitism, and for his "educational" trip to the Holocaust Museum that he bailed on after like five minutes. It's truly baffling, this acceptance of an unrepentant bigot. He should be shunned by his colleagues, not encouraged. |
This is racist as well as mean. |
