PVS Swim meets

Has anyone’s PVS swim team had a meet yet? How did it go? What worked, what didn’t?

Wee had an internal team one today. It went amazingly well.

Ran smoothly kids were all kept outside when it was not their turn and spaced out inside as they were next up with mask on until it was their heat.

Related, I believe machine did one in March at the St. James after USA swimming banned meets. I also see under pvs results that they had one last weekend, which seemed like it had a massive amount of swimmers. Is Machine running those meets safely?

Did that March Machine meet actually happen? They advertised something right after they cancelled JOs, but before USA Swimming and PVS pulled all the sanctions, and our team had put up a link to it, but then pulled the link pretty much right after.

We're not Machine, so didn't see the meet last weekend. 64 kids in the first event seems like a lot-- but it looks like there were 4 different sessions and only teenagers-- so 16 kids per session seems reasonable. I don't know how they ran it, but could be done safetly.

I believe March happened and it was definitely after USA swimming cancelled sanctioned meets. I was going to officiate but decided against it.

The "Meet of Champions" right? My kids are on two different teams, and neither participated. If it did happen, none of the times counted for anything.

The meet didn’t count but it should t have happened, either.

I think that meet was cancelled.

Back to the OP’s question/ DD swims one of the advanced groups at RMSC and has not done meets other than intersquad with unofficial times. And for the time being none are planned.

It depends on the advanced group. We got an email saying they are but we aren't in an advanced group and don't care about times so its a non-issue.

Looks like most of the PVS meets that have started up are in VA, I think they are further ahead in opening phases and it’s probably easier to run a meet there.

RMSC’s NTG group had a sanctioned intersquad last weekend and it went great!

50-60 kids per session
Boys session/girls session
Limited officials and timers
No spectators
Livestream via Facebook
Masks all the way up to blocks
Kids staged outside when not swimming or lining up to swim - I’m not sure if they were required to stage them outside per MoCo or if it was their decision to be as safe as possible or if it was due to construction at MLK. I have noticed other facilities are having kids spread out in stands. Kids did not complain even when it was raining Sunday (they did have tents), but this probably won’t work over the winter.

Sounds like this might be site specific. Our coaches are using two practice slots next weekend to run an unofficial meet for two advanced groups. There’s nothing official on the calendar, but I’m sure there’s a lot of discussion and looking at options. Hopefully, things will continue to go well and keep those options open.

It's only for the elite kids, not your advanced group. Advanced get slightly more than regular kids who basically get absolute minimum. Thats more than our coaches are doing but I don't care about meets.

St. James has been rented out for several meets now. The Machine had a multi day meet and it was an insane number of kids. It did not appear to be safe. It was live streamed.

AAC vs NCAP - looked like a smaller meet.

And St. James had one with the Makos. They did it by groups. They use one timer on deck - masks until the blocks, and touchpads - but the touchpads were not accurate.

Since they record them they really ought to be careful. You can see people pulling down masks and not really wearing them.

Hm. I'm a little concerned about something happening at these larger invitational meets that causes the smaller intrasquad and dual meets to be cancelled. It looks like there's two different meets this weekend with 3+ teams? The one at the St. James says there a cap per session of 80 kids. 80 seems way high!
