How is your preschooler doing with a mask all day?

Our full-day preschool just announced mandatory masks (did something change in Virginia??) starting next week. Our kids both do great with masks for an hour or two, but we've never had them wear masks for an extended period of time and we received NO notice from the school. Just wondering how it's going for everyone else?

Wow I’m kind of surprised your school hasn’t had them wearing masks?
Our 4 yr old has been wearing masks full day since August. The kids have been doing great with it! Seriously, they adapted really well.

Yes, Virginia put out new phase 3 guidelines that strongly recommended masks for kids over age 2 rather than just saying kids over 2 may wear masks.

My daughter and her classmates wear them, just like they wear their shoes, without problem. If a child takes his shoes off, he is reminded to put them back on. Same with a mask. Do get a nice cotton one though as it will feel better on the face.

Wow, I am surprised folks here are sending their kids to school where they don't require masks!
My experience has been they adjust quickly, it's become like a fashion accessory. Always send 1-2 spares.

Honestly, I don’t think it makes a huge difference, as long as the teachers are wearing them. My kid’s school started mandating them in August. They had no cases before then and they’ve been open the whole time. No cases since, either.

My 5 year old does fine with masks. My 4 yo won't wear them at all. Depends on the kid

My 4yo is wearing one all morning (indoors and outdoors) at preschool and it seems to be going fine. It's obviously not perfect with sometimes masks coming below noses, etc., but generally compliance seems high.

My 3yr old wears one all day with no complaints. My kids are good at keeping their masks on at the playground too. I think it helps if you find a mask that fits your kids well.

My almost-3 year old does not object to wearing it, but he licks and chews it. It gets wet.

My 4 year old wears it fine, no issues at all.

OP here, thanks - my 4 year old has been really good about wearing hers at playgrounds, too, and the ones she has fit her really well, so I'm hopeful that the day is going well - fingers crossed!

Went fine. They take them off to sleep and eat, so they are barely wearing them half the day anyway. (So it seems silly - they are all exposing each other anyway! But it certainly doesn’t hurt the kids to wear them, so whatever.)

Masks are required in our preschool from day 1.

My kid is fine. She likes the gaiter/neck type, but is fine with the earloop ones too so we alternate.

Mask wearing is so normalized now for kids. I think the adults are the ones making a fuss, not the kids.

My three year old wears it no problem but I’ve yet to find one that stays up over nose.

Our daycare (in VA) doesn’t require masks for the children. All adults are required to wear masks. We have had 2 separate confirmed cases (1 teacher and one 2yo) in the 5 months since they reopened.
That being said, my 4yo does just fine wearing a mask for up to several hours at a time when required (trip to zoo, trip to a local pumpkin patch, etc). She understands that our ability to do these activities is contingent on her ability to keep the mask on, so she’s pretty compliant.
