Peer pressure helps! ![]() Like another PP, I'm skeptical that the kids wearing masks really makes that much of a difference overall since they're taking them on and off all day anyway for eating, naps, etc. but it's made mask-wearing part of the routine for DS, and for that I am grateful. No arguments when we go to the playground, occasional store, etc. He just does it. |
At my daycare kids wear masks but they’re touching their masks and adjusting them all day long. |
4 year old at a preschool in Maryland that has no issues. I think they let them take it off on the playground but most kids continue to wear them. They gave the kids a lanyard type thing that attaches to the mask and hangs around their neck so they don't lose them especially when the masks come off for lunch. |
OP here - the issue with little kids constantly fiddling with their masks, having to take them on/off, putting them on inside out, etc., is one of the reasons I wasn't concerned that the kids weren't wearing masks in the first place (they would be exposed to each other's germs no matter what, we are willing to accept that risk). I did buy iron-on labels that I put on the wrong side of the mask and so far my kids have been good about looking to see where the label is and putting that side on their face, but they don't always get it right ![]() |
If your kid’s nose is not covered, why bother with a mask? It’s not doing anything. |
Literally fine. Have to remind them to take off in the car after pick up |
4 yr old - no issues. Just make it fun and act like it’s no big deal.
We got a TON of different kids masks - character prints, flowers, princesses, Dino’s etc. Now it’s become part of the morning routine, pick your socks and your mask. Some days you feel like paw patrol, other days it’s army green or ballerinas... |
Our preschool doesn't require masks. I send one with my 4.5 yo and it really varies how well he does with it. Some days it's on the whole day, others it's not (we get photos of activities). He tells me he takes it off when he gets too hot, which I certainly understand, but I wish he could keep it on longer. |
OP back again to report that my 4 year old did really well yesterday! |
I technically don't have a preschooler anymore (kids are 2 and 5 and have been in their school since June). My 5 year old has no issues. My two year old has issues that are more about keeping it on correctly, not about whether to wear it or not. But generally, both are fine. |
same here with 3 year old. Peer pressure works! |
My 3 year old wears one all day at daycare without a problem. |
Agree with this. My 3.5 year old LOVES picking out her mask in the morning. It's like a costume. |
Kids don't wear masks while eating and sleeping. Also, there are plenty of opportunities to eschange germs in childcare. And I don't believe that 2 years old will wear mask for 3-4 hours without take it out, share it with friends, hide it in some dirty corners, and etc... But if make you feel good, keep thinking that 2 years kids wear mask all day long. |
OP here. Not sure what prompted your negativity. This is a new requirement at our preschool and I was just asking how other peoples' kids are doing with it. I was OK with sending my kid to school without a mask, so I really don't care either way... |
