DD loves banana pancakes (https://www.feedinglittles.com/blog/easy-banana-egg-oat-pancakes) and I enjoy making them. What homemade treats do you like to make?
And to be clear - we absolutely buy her store-bought things like the Gerber crunchies and puffs, so not trying to be a snob, I just enjoy being able to make something she loves! |
| My kids absolutely love popcorn. We have a popcorn maker and they love seeing the kernels pop and spill into the bowl. After they each a paper bag that they decorate (like the kind used for school lunches) I put in their popcorn and melted butter, they shake it up and add their preffered flavor. They love sprinkling Parmesan cheese or salt in their bags and closing it to shake it all up. We also have sweet popcorn with sprinkles. Snickerdoodle popcorn (butter and cinnamon sugar) is also a hit. |
| Lord, who has time for this? They get peanut butter on crackers. |
| I'll just let him have a little bit of whatever I make. So banana bread or pumpkin rolls or whatever. |
Do you remember where you bought the popcorn maker? Would love to buy one! |
Sorry to be this person, but just an FYI if others are reading and like me didn't know this until recently - popcorn is a choking hazard before about 4 years old. |
| zucchini bread or muffins |
https://www.target.com/p/cuisinart-easypop-hot-air-popcorn-maker-cpm100mr/-/A-51251798#lnk=sametab We have this one, but any of them would work. We like to bake too, but the popcorn is nice because it’s so fast and they get super excited about every step. And yes, PP is right that it’s a chocking hazard — my kids are 3 and 5 so it’s not as a big a deal for us AND I am very careful about not letting any unpopped kernels get in their bags. |
| we make non-bread sandwiches with different fruits. Banana slices with PB (and occasionally raisins) in the middle, or apple slices with PB (and occasionally a marshmallow) in the middle. They can help cut the bananas or put the tops on to finish the sandwich. |
Thank you!! |
THE chocking hazard isn’t the unopposed kernels, it’s actual popcorn as it’s easy for three-year-olds to aspirate. |

Smoothies! My 2yo loves helping add ingredients. Each time it’s different but some combo of a frozen fruit (sliced frozen bananas or raspberries often), one or two big handfuls of fresh spinach, a splash of milk and a small yogurt.
I haven’t done this because of the mess, but if your kids are a little older, you could have them help make homemade Popsicles with yogurt and fruit that you freeze in different molds. We also do a batch of homemade pancakes with shredded zucchini, banana, and spinach once or twice a month and I freeze them individually for a quick breakfast or snacks. |
As the parent of tween/teens, reading this cracks me up. I remember when my kids ate like this. It was nice.

Yeah now the afternoon snack seems to be 2 hot pockets...sigh |
