Child Care and Covid

Anonymous
My daughter works part time in a day care. Some knucklehead parent sent kid to school yesterday with a fever and cough. He failed temp check. Parents have to pick up kids. The sick kid needs to pass Covid test to come back. School is shut down two days.

My daughter at part time is losing two days pay. Maybe whole test of week pay. All other parents now have day care issues.

Don’t send your kid to daycare sick!

This is the problem with any group care. There will always be a parent stupid or desperate enough to send their kid sick.

Parents are desperate for part-time nannies. Your DD could be making $25 an hour parttime with one family. Have her sign up on care.com.

Op my daughter is very happy with her $13,25 an hour. She works 7-930 am every day to help set up and handle morning rush. She is a full time college student doing remote learning so hours don’t interfere and only 10 minute drive.

Why doesn’t the school have a temp check before the kid can go into the school? That’s what my kid’s preschool does.

Is this a surprise???? I mean really!?

I used to work in daycares and preschools. Parents drugged up their kids on the way to the center so they would “look” fine until the meds wore off. Parents sent kids with lice, pinkeye, rashes, and more.

Why would you think any their would be any difference now?

You should work in Daycare and see how half ass it is. My 18 year old daughter is doing the part time day care, she also last summer worked in a private school after hours program and before that was a CIT in a public school program and is doing nursing. Her observations are why things happen.

First the parents don’t pay enough to employee workers a living wage. My daughters place is in a very rich area in a church so no mortgage or property taxes paid. But none of staff can afford to live nearby or afford decent cars so every morning is a chore. The staff is exhausted many have second jobs and have food insecurity and housing issues. Most have to work other jobs. None are trained teachers. Some are old. They are nice and do their absolute best. My daughter takes it seriously.

In this kids case he came and passed temp check, my daughter actually played with home for 30 minutes as he was one if first to arrive. He had a cough and they rechecked home and he then had a fever.

Amazing no Covid at all in place yet. My daughter is there at 7 am every day as she lives in the rich town by day care center and has a newer car. Her and person running day care center are there first. The staff it is harder. But since it is church related my daughter says they give full time staff, medical, vacation and sick days and full benefits which is rare but the salary is still very low.

Basically at a low wage passing background check and having access to a reliable car gets you a job

I don't care how desperate parents are if they sent sick kid to school then they should be out forever and parents responsible for paying school and employees for lost money.

Okay. Then the whole program would shut down because no parent would agree to that, even responsible ones like me who never knowingly bring a sick child to care even without a pandemic. Then instead of losing wages, the entire business would close.

Also, parents are still paying for the days care is closed so if it is true that employees aren’t being paid that is on the owner.

And yet daycare costs more than my four bedroom house. You are right that it would be better if workers were paid more but parents are already knuckling under the high costs.

It's not ok to send kids to school/daycare sick. I personally have never done it.

However, for some parents it's a matter of keeping a roof over their head. The consequences of living in a country where they want you to keep that unplanned pregnancy but also don't want to give working parents any help whatsoever.

What would really help is if we could just figure out the CAUSE of pregnancy! It's quite unfair that so many women just find themselves pregnant with absolutely no idea how it happened!

What state??

In Maryland temperatures have to be taken OUTSIDE and the parents have to answer a COID questionnaire. This is a major failing on the daycare. The child would’ve never been allowed in because he would’ve failed the health screening outside.

This also needs to be reported to the health department and licensing department.

If the daycare continues to collect tuition from their kids then your daughter still should be paid. I would be livid if I was a parent in that daycare.

Why is the daycare closing for 2 days? Ours doesn't close until there is a confirmed positive case, and then only the classroom/s affected.
