Expectant and Postpartum Moms

Anybody suspected you were pregnant besides yourself?
So, DH is making the calls, telling people we're expecting. I'm here laughing/peeing listening to him answering the questions people ask... By his answer I noticed someone asked about what kind of symptoms I had and he described how I felt in the beginning. Going back in time I just realized... based on our estimated due date here are the most weird symptoms I noticed: *around a week and half after conception: baby food craving - I ran to a 24hour Walmart after work to buy puffs and those yogurt melts. My mouth was salivating all day long and that's all I could fix my mind on... Those damn yogurt melts and puffs... *around 2 weeks after conception to present time: I've became incredibly tolerant to DH's mistakes and behaviors that used to piss me off - like leaving dirty dishes on the sink, wet towel on the bed, eating in bed and leaving dirty dishes behind... I used to get really angry at such things but now I don't really mind. I don't even recognize myself! Actually he's the one who found out I was pregnant. My periods were never regular so I didn't keep track of it. Doctors always told me I could not have children so I had just stopped BC since we decided we would start trying before looking for medical help. A month after I stopped BC - not even got the period after that - I started feeling the sore breasts, DH mentioned my boobs looked HUGE!!! and he said I had the "naughty shopping look on my face". That's what he calls when I go shopping and don't tell him. I have the guilty/happy/naughty look on my face until he asks me what I'm up to and I confess I went shopping. He came up with that and I swore I didn't go shopping. He didn't believe me, he said my eyes were shining in a different way. He said I was being extremely nice so I was definitely hiding something. LOL Anyway, after investigating a little I convinced him that I was not hiding anything and he asked about my periods. I said I didn't get them and he suggested us getting a pregnancy test. I laughed at him but took it anyway. What a surprise when the + sign came up!!!! Now, around 20 weeks later we're here just recalling the episode and laughing all over again. So tell me about you, how did you find out you were pregnant? Any weird symptoms? |
orgasms in my sleep

| Love the "naughty shopping look"! |
Seriously!!! I HAD THAT TOO!!! It was embarrassing in the beginning but now... I can't wait to fall asleep
|
| Oh man. Why don't I get that? |
| Heh. I had pica. The day after my period was due, I absolutely positively had an intense desire to eat dirt. |
Oh my gosh! Me too!!!
Also, I don't know if this is weird, but I'm thirsty all the time. |
I needed to laugh and you did it! |
PICA - eating dirt - is a very common symptom of pseudo-anemia, an almost "invisible" early sign of pregnancy. It's very common where I come from and I was surprised to learn that over here women don't get it. I learned that the "eating ice chips" is related to that instead. |
| I had the eating ice situation as well. All I wanted was to gnaw on hunks of ice and ice pops. Really helped with the excessive weight gain though, only gained 20 lbs. wink wink |
Oh I had those! The first hint that I was pregnant were the vivid, mind-blowing sex dreams that crossed all manner of my regular boundaries. |

Not weird by most standards but I'll share anyway:
I got some kind of crazy water retention. Feet looked like they were going to burst open from all the fluid. Very, very, very bad. Couldn't even fit into the fattest Payless shoes in a Florida store. I used to ask my sister to "squeeze-massage the fluid" up out of my feet toward my calf just to get 30 seconds of relief. Saw a video of me taken three days after daughter was born and the swelling had gone down enough for me to fit into flipflops. I walked across the floor barefoot with my daughter and my feet were caught on tape. Ho-ly sh-it. How was it even possible for me to walk when preggster, I don't know... |

My feet were swollen super soon after I conceived. I didn't know I was pregnant until I was about 9 weeks along, but my feet were swollen long before that.
And, as with the OP, pregnancy mellowed me. I didn't have crazy mood swings or want to kill my husband until the very end of pregnancy. Sadly, once I had the baby, the hormones came raging back and I am a bitch. |

Meat. I started craving meat something awful.
I used to be a vegetarian. I say used to because I made the mistake of telling DH and he went out and got me White Castle after watching me drool on the floor during Harold and Kumar. |
