My home is tiny so I cannot buy a Peloton, rower or elliptical or anything like that.
I was thinking of buying a mini-stepper like the ones at the bottom of my post. My questions are: 1. Does it make a difference to the workout if the pistons are angled differently (parallel to the feet in the first one, perpendicular in the second)? 2. Is this type of exercise a lot of wear on the knees compared to exercise on other machines that exercise the lower body? I'd prefer something that saves my knees ![]() Your insights are welcome, I don't know much about this! ![]() Or perhaps this: ![]() |
I have the Peloton bike at the side of my bed. You'd be surprised where it can fit. I know people with the Peloton in their living rooms, on their stairwell (wide and useless for anything else), in their semi-outdoor sunroom that no one wants to gather in. |
You are not going to get a real workout from those steppers. Perhaps consider buying a small step with risers that you can actually step up on. |
OP, did you end up getting something? Or does anyone have any advice other than "Don't" or references to a "real" workout?
I've got a college kid who misses exercise (his sport is suspended) when he's at school, but he goes someplace hot and humid and running in a mask is miserable for him, but his college requires masks. But if he could do something in his dorm room while watching too much TV (his assessment, not mine), he thinks he'd sleep better. |
Get a bike. There are many fold up bikes for his dorm. Doing just cardio in your room (like HIIT) would be a lot more beneficial than that stepper. |
Can you recommend a bike? |

I have one very similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/ShareVgo-Bluetooth-Exercise-Performance-Tracking/dp/B07K7S6NWK/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=exercise+bike+ipad&qid=1609895611&s=sporting-goods&sr=1-10
Mine is Innova brand but I don't see it anymore. It really doesn't take up a lot of space. It doesn't completely fold, but can be folded partly to put out of the away. Ours sits in our family room and blends in because of the slim profile. The iPad/phone holder is handy if you want to read. Mine doesn't have the app. That seems like a bonus. There are similar ones I've seen for about $175 that are similar (but maybe without the app). |
p.s. easy to put together. |
I have both a faux peloton and a mini-stepper.
Stepper is nice for extra steps while watching TV. I like to take Peloton classes 3/week so this will be nice for other days to incorporate with stretching, etc. |
