Is this year's especially strong? Yeow. |
I’ve heard that it is. |
I did not have any reaction to the flu shot this year. So maybe it depends on the person and how your antibodies are fighting the shot. N I had flu like symptoms after my second shingles shot. But not my flu shot. |
Yes, everyone in my family had a pronounced reaction this year, whereas normally the worst anyone experiences is a little fatigue and soreness just around the injection site. I have also wondered if we reacted more strongly because our immune systems haven't had much of a workout this year (no colds or anything since February) and because of high stress generally. |
Yes! I was slated to see a pregnant friend this evening (distanced) and just canceled as I got a shot yesterday and feel feverish and so achy. I am sure it's the shot (dr. warned of rxn) but I'd feel awful exposing her to anything! I feel so achy today. Good pt about the immune system! I have not been sick since February. |
When you get a vaccine (or encounter any new virus/bacteria), your immune system kicks into overdrive trying to produce the right antibody. Picture it kind of manufacturing random crap like crazy. It might get one that matches relatively quickly, or it might take a few days. Once it produces the correct match, it can calm down and focus on replicating that match. If you felt crummy for a few days, it was likely a longer process.
My whole family got the flu shot last week. I felt kind of dizzy/headachey/sore for a day, everyone else was fine. Last year, my son was exhausted for a few days. It’s always random. |
The flu shot shouldn’t usually cause a fever. The shingles shot will usually give you a high fever, chills, etc for a few days. If anyone is due for a shingles shot this fall/winter, you may want to get a covid test at the same time so you aren’t concerned. |
I had a flu shot a few years ago where I got the shot at 4:30 feeling absolutely fine and by 6:30 I was running a 102 fever. No other symptoms, not feeling flu-ish, just fever. It lasted 36 hours, during which time I took Advil to keep it down, then vanished. I never developed any other symptoms besides just feeling too hot. It was bizarre, but yes, the flu shot can cause a fever. Ever since I get it on a day where I can make sure I don't have to do anything for awhile in case I react like that again. |
I've never had an issue before, but felt not awesome after I got the shot yesterday. I didn't have a fever and wasn't "sick," but didn't feel great. I attributed it to general malaise at the world more than the flue shot, but maybe it did actually have an effect. |
DH is the only one who had gotten it so far and he was miserable. Slightly elevated temp (99.8ish)
Super sore shoulder. Body aches for several days. |
For those who have not gotten a shot yet-my kids and I got FluMist yesterday at Costco.
First flu vaccine ever for me. No side effects for any of us and it was free on our insurance. |
I got mine yesterday and feel malaise today - achy/woozy. |
My husband, myself, and our 3 kids got the shot yesterday and everyone is feeling totally normal. |
Just FYI, don't ever take a fever reducer after a vaccination. Completely defeats the purpose. You don't need to treat a 102 fever. Or really any fever, other than drinking fluids/electrolytes. |
