Holy sh#t, how is the DC Attorney General not involved in this yet? |
This is just crazy. It is so true - I am sure the family that donated 1M could call any school and say her is 1M, accept my kid. Maybe not big 3 - but certainly any of the others.
I hope this does not deter the parents from finding alternative arrangements. |
I don't believe that anyone would donate $1M, or invest $1M. More likely, Whittle himself has put some of his own money in, but doesn't want to admit it. BTW, any family that has $1M to invest in such a losing proposition would have to have a net worth better than $50M. And I tend to doubt that any family with access to that much capital is hanging around at Whittle instead of a proper boarding school or at least one of the majors in DC area. |
Also, aren't private school applications due in mid Jan? Rather than putting more money in, spend your time and money applying out, maybe making some donations here and there where appropriate, networking your way out. Even if the school collapses, you could just re-class for whatever grade you are in now after home-schooling etc for the remainder of this year. |
We're still around. We're just ignoring you and laughing at your posts. |
So is it true that one family donated 1M? |
wouldnt need to wait. A million dollar donation would probably get you a mid-year move across the street to Burke no problem. |
Whittle's wife ( who has considerable assets to protect) filed for divorce last week in NY court. One can imagine it will be hard for him to manage family drama as well as the corporate bankruptcy at the same time. |
Whittle family here. Almost every family that enrolled the first year came from public schools /charter schools. They kids who transferred from private schools were all teachers children. I think one boy came from a well known independent school but his family only stayed for a short time before leaving. The education at Whittle was terrible. Parents were complaining pre-covid. Our kids were not getting what they needed before covid hit. We were all apart of all the meetings, zoom calls etc. they knew there were many problems. The parents who are defending the school don’t want their kids going back to public schools in SE, NE etc. I know these parents. I also know a lot of inside information and let me tell you it’s a shit show. We are trying to get out and we are waiting this out because DC is getting a transfer out of the country in a few months.
As far as an update to what’s going on. They are asking parents to pay tuition in advance for this year and next year and the investor will cover rest. There’s also a lot of talk about starting pods. |
Sounds like a strategic divorce to try to shield assets from his creditors and future plaintiffs. |
This is an insane pump and dump. Please tell me no one is paying this crook future tuition! If you do that, you become an unsecured creditor and are in line behind all the other creditors who are owed money over the past few years. Do not give this man another dime. |
I know for a fact there are AT least two families with the kind of disposable income to invest 1m and not bat an eyelash if things fall apart. |
But surely they are financially savvy enough to not do it. Buy a stake, maybe. But not make a donation to a failing, for-profit venture. |
These families are quite devoted. What can I say? I agree with you but there’s no convincing then otherwise. |
Not unless you’re in 11th grade. They are over booked in every other grade. |
