the Key/ASFS building switch...

When you wrote “ASFS wants to stay at ASFS”. They’re not united in that. There are ASFS families that really want to move to the Key location. So much so that they advocated hard for it this summer, hard enough for Murphy to announce it, prematurely. No one from Key ever advocated for a location change.

Regardless it seems silly to spend two years guessing at aps projections and which units are likely to move.

Aren’t those units like 0.2 miles to Key?

More like .4, but a bus rider is a bus rider. Lee Highway is too dangerous for elementary school kids to cross.

None of these families put their kids on the bus.
They ALL walk so it is incorrect to say they are bus riders so why does it matter where the bus goes. APS considers Lee, Wilson, and Clarendon, uncrossable but these are elementarg kids. They are waking with their parents.

This is the same argument that South Farlington is trying to make. They may walk sometimes, but APS does not consider the planing units walkable so they are provided bus service. If they are willing to be designated as walkable and give up bus service I would be for it. APS needs to save money anywhere it can.

Not exactly. Unless there are zero buses or exactly 100% capacity buses those PUs will be on the route for just about any bus going to the key bus line (east on Key blvd) and essentially are ‘free’.

Now if Key is 100% walker it might make sense to remove them, but that seems unlikely.

Those units should move to Taylor, but they don't have many kids. I think they are projected to have 30 combined in 2021.

You only need to move 60-80 kids period though. Move them and one other unit and that’s it. Probably 24050 or 24051 or they don’t move 23180.

How many trailers do you think they are going to leave at Key? Key has a permanent capacity of 653. Including the walk zone gets it to 776 (or 780) projected students in 2021. That is 120 students over capacity. I doubt they rezone to include all of the walkable planning units but one. So I think they will move more than 60-80 kids.

Hope that Key and ASFS continue to bug the school board this fall even though the SB explicitly said STFU until January. It will just show how incredibly spoiled they are.

To be fair, the reason that Key keeps bringing this issue up with the School Board is because the Board has said "Its a done deal." So if Key lets its it until later, there is a risk that the Board will say, "You sat on this too long. The decision is made and is final."

Article today indicates, in my read of it, that it’s 99. 99999 percent certain amazon hq2 is coming to Arlington (Crystal City). This school swap must be related to that.

Whew! It had been a few days since everything was about ASFS and "the swap." I was getting worried. Of course. It's so obvious that swapping these two schools is preparation for thousands more people coming to the County.

I think that the need for a neighborhood school there would dovetail with increases in families with kids in Rosslyn and the area. I’m not sure the county is equipped for amazonhq2.

The need for neighborhood schools will extend beyond there. Not everyone is going to live in Rosslyn. Nobody is equipped for HQ2.

And they are equally, or more likely, to live in Crystal City and Alexandria which are adjacent to Potomac Yards and the office buildings in Crystal City.

Sorry, one last comment: it's not all about ASFS/Key area of Arlington! HQ2 might come to Crystal City/Potomac Yards, and you're focused on ASFS/Key. We get it - you want/we need another neighborhood school in NE.

Not saying that there aren’t other needs. I’m just saying that this is one piece of the puzzle. Clearly, too, executives will live up in the lily white parts where there are schools with slides in them.

They're not living in Rosslyn or even the Key zone. A bunch of $$$$ houses in 22207 that have been on the market for a very long time are suddenly under contract. It's either speculators or those executives.
