Whew! It had been a few days since everything was about ASFS and "the swap." I was getting worried. Of course. It's so obvious that swapping these two schools is preparation for thousands more people coming to the County.

I think that the need for a neighborhood school there would dovetail with increases in families with kids in Rosslyn and the area. I’m not sure the county is equipped for amazonhq2.

The need for neighborhood schools will extend beyond there. Not everyone is going to live in Rosslyn. Nobody is equipped for HQ2.

And they are equally, or more likely, to live in Crystal City and Alexandria which are adjacent to Potomac Yards and the office buildings in Crystal City.

Sorry, one last comment: it's not all about ASFS/Key area of Arlington! HQ2 might come to Crystal City/Potomac Yards, and you're focused on ASFS/Key. We get it - you want/we need another neighborhood school in NE.

They're not living in Rosslyn or even the Key zone. A bunch of $$$$ houses in 22207 that have been on the market for a very long time are suddenly under contract. It's either speculators or those executives.

Not saying that there aren’t other needs. I’m just saying that this is one piece of the puzzle. Clearly, too, executives will live up in the lily white parts where there are schools with slides in them.

Yeah, I guess all the higher-ups will want to live in north arlington. The rif-raf will come from south Arlington and has no impact on schools there. Or in Alexandria, DC, Maryland,.....
The arrogance of north arlington has no limit.

There's nothing on the market in 22202 and very little in 22204 since the spring market. But a bunch of $$$ homes in Alexandria (Belle Haven) and higher end new builds in 22207 that didn't sell in the spring are under contract all of a sudden. Just the facts. If there were similar properties on the market in South Arlington, they'd be under contract, too, but there's not. People are holding. Buckle up everybody!

But this has nothing to so with the Key/ASFS swap, and the swap has nothing to do with Amazon coming or not. It's not some plot to appease Amazon execs. There's no conspiracy. The school isn't located in a good spot for Immersion, and their aren't enough neighborhood seats in this quadrant.

The increased need for neighborhood seats is probably related to hq2, in part. In part. Yes, those new builds in Caucasia are a clue.

Which houses? We've been looking for a while and things seem pretty stagnant...

If the superintendent's proposed map for South Arlington holds, it looks like it tanks the idea of making both Key and ASF neighborhood schools. That proposal would put Abingdon at 131% and Barcroft at 125% in 2021, and since Carlin Springs is already over capacity at 107%, the only way to relieve the overcrowding will be to move Ashlawn's (and maybe Barrett's) boundaries south across 50, taking away all of the excess capacity in NW that would have allowed an option school to move there.

I agree. Plus Long Branch is losing all its PUs south of 50, so they could potentially pick up capacity there too.

Okay, PP who said the switch was all about Amazon. Amazon is coming albeit with half strength. How did it relate to this at all?????

To be fair, the reason that Key keeps bringing this issue up with the School Board is because the Board has said "Its a done deal." So if Key lets its it until later, there is a risk that the Board will say, "You sat on this too long. The decision is made and is final."

The Board is shady. If they say it’s a done deal they mean that only until a group screams so loud they can’t ignore them and they go back on their word.

So SB said instructions for commentary would come in January.

Nothing happened last night so what is plan?

When final steps and decisions made, such as any related boundary changes, grandfathering, lab move??

Take a breath. January isn’t over yet. There is another meeting on the 24th.

SB is pretty shady and this whole superintendent discretion to disrupt 2+ communities seems ham fisted. After what they did to Patrick Henry, we have to stay on top before they sneak something by.

You sure do love the drama.

More room is needed via a neighborhood school in that area.
